The Aureum Ignis sundered the veil, trailing kaleidoscopic tendrils of aetheric energy from the wound that its translation had caused in reality. The heaving energies of the warp seethed and roiled at having its prey escape this unkind embrace and with a flash of light the rift was gone. The Aureum Ignis lit its mighty plasma drives, cones of blue-white fire trailing its golden hull for a dozen kilometres as she burned hard for the inner system. Her punch-dagger shaped and gilded prow bore an aquila clutching lightning bolts carved in massive relief, the personal heraldry of the Emperor Himself and dread signifier to all that beheld it of her deadly capability. Augur baffles rendered all space around her foul with electromagnetic interference and static, a void of signal returns that rendered the Aureum Ignis invisible to all mundane sensoria as her main armament of adrathic lances powered up, each a forbidden and long thought forgotten relic of the Dark Age of Technology. A single broadside could decimate a capital ship many times the War Galleasses tonnage and mass. Her elegant exterior was mirrored by her overwrought bridge space. Fluted columns of Korinthyan marble held aloft a vaulted ceiling painted to represent many ancient Terran myths in the style of the ancient Aetalean masters. The bridges centre was dominated by an alabaster statue of the Hellan diety of Aetlas, bent almost double, his hands held over his back to hold aloft a globe of holographic light that replaced Terra in his original burden. A perfect three dimensional rendition of the Pzovka Minoris system depicted in ghostly blue. Lares Zarathustra, Tribune of the first circle of the Legio Custodes stared at the hololithic projection, unblinking intensity perfectly wedded to his immovable patience. His noble, patrician features seemingly sculpted with the intent to inspire awe and terror in equal measure, his dark hair cropped close to the top but sides shaved away in the style worn by techno barbarian warriors of Terra for millennia. His golden armour dazzled in the tactical displays light, each panel a work of incalculable artistic worth and the apex of the artificer’s profession. His mighty spear held in his right gauntlet, butt resting on the oak floor, wickedly sharp tip glinting dangerously. His eagle shaped shield held lightly against his left thigh, left gauntlet resting atop it in a pose reminiscent of the ancient warrior goddess of Old Albia. Zarathustra’s rich purple cloak hung almost to the floor, its gene-recovered ermine trim worth more than the yearly output of a mid-sized hive. The mortal bridge crew efficiently went about their business with out his input. Operations officers called out their post translation rituals with officious ceremony. “Astro plotting fix aye, Pzovka Minoris system confirmed, Lord Tribune.” “Stellar chronography reports 3.02 drift anomaly!” A chorus of gasps and shouted requests for confirmation. The tribune remained motionless as the bridge crew worked feverishly to verify the report. Three years lost in the warp? Unusual, but not unheard of… Perhaps… His train of thought was interrupted by more pertinent information from the Aureum Ignis’ bridge officers. “Astropathic Cloister reports severe aetheric disturbance. Multiple plant scale death screams.” Another officer shouted his report over the previous. “Comms confirms Legio Astartes signals traffic on 4th planet. Verified as IV legion encryption rites!” More commotion erupted from the mortal crew. Zarathustra broke his silence, his deep yet cultured voice cutting through the din of shouted orders and countermands by virtue of the authority imbued in it rather than by brute volume. “Continue course to 4th planet. All Legio Custodes sodalities to report to the teleportariums. In absence of reliable data we continue the mission.” The bridge crew set to work with new purpose. Lares Zarathustra hefted his paragon spear and praesidium shield, executed an elegant volté face, and strode out of the bridge with his magnificent amaranthine cloak streaming behind him. His thoughts dwelled on the three years lost in the warp. What had happened in that time? Where were Magnus’ wayward sons? What had happened to the main censure fleet on its mission to Prospero? What were Perturabo’s dour lot doing on a planetary fief of the Thousand Sons? Questions heaped upon more questions until it was almost unbearable. Zarathustra calmed himself with a thought. His last orders carried the weight of a decree absolute from Terra, he would carry them out. The Iron Warriors would give him answers or he would deal with them exactly as he would the traitorous sons of Magnus. The Legio Custodes would not be found wanting no matter the circumstance. No matter the foe.
Steven deploys his newly painted addition to his force the Tyrant Siege terminators as far back as possible but still having a clear line of sight onto the approaching enemies deployment zone. Oww man are these new models sexy!
Great view of the Leviathans position in the front ranks of Stevens army and deployment zone with some of his first terminator squads being deployed around him for some extra support or is it the other way round? is the leviathan supporting them?
On the other side of the massive temple we have the first unit deployed, The cataphracti terminator command unit lead the way into the enemy flying the Peturabo banner high in the air, Iron Within!
The last two units but by no mean the least and if I may say myself probably the two toughest units in Steven’s army deploy just beside the command unit as close to the deployment zone as possible leading the way into the valley of death. The terrain being very tricky due to its big line of sight blocking and massive terrain Steven had to totally separate his army in two….. is this a good choice by steven? Preturabo is now attached to the 2 strong Iron Circle automata squad for some extra bodyguard protection… not that he really needs it!
Nicks turn now… and owww boy have we waited for this moment! we finally have Custodes on an SN table! Hooray! Nick starts off by deploying his Tribune on the same side as Preturabo again due to the terrain its looking like both armies are just going to run up the table and clash in awesome combat (I hope this is what happens just imagine it)
The Pallas Grav-Attack squadron deploy just behind. An interesting deployment from Nick as these only have a range of 18″, it is very common to see these guys deep strike in and do their job straight away.
Two of Nicks Contemptor-Galatus are deployed on one of the extreme flanks as there is little reason to deploy in the middle given the layout of the terrain. I think this image really helps us appreciate these fantastic models.
The Hetaeron Guard are set up just in front of the Contemptors surely ready to advance headlong into the enemy. Nick finishes his deployment and tries to steal the initiative but fails on the roll of a 4. Lets do this! Iron Warriors turn 1 next!
Steven moves his Iron Circle forwards with Perturabo leading them. A scary sight to say the very least! The units behind them also move forth, this flank is very ready for close combat.
