Battle Report (Death Korps of Krieg vs Orks)

Thunder followed fire, blooms of violence that formed brief manmade geysers of snow, soil and blood. The bombardment rolled onwards, sweeping the blasted ruins of Arkelia clean of xenos before the grinding advance of of the Death Korps 252nd regiment. Shattered greenskin vehicles still spewing oily smoke from their recent demise were swallowed up by a vast phalanx of drab coloured Imperial armour and infantry in their distinctive skull faced rebreather masks. The bombardment reached its crescendo, one hundred guns per kilometre of front opened up into a furious deluge of high explosive ordinance just metres in front of the advancing infantry. Friendly casualties were unavoidable. The Death Korps of Krieg cared not. The advance continued, barely slowing. The violence of the bombardment marked its end. The advance had outstripped the guns range. The batteries would need to be re-sited, a laborious process that could take days in the moonscape left behind by their punishment.

The 252nd continued its advance, its objective a thoroughfare that intersected Arkelia through its north south axis, there they would retrench, bring forward their artillery and break the inevitable ork counter attacks in terrain better suited to Imperial gunnery. Or so the plan went, even now the rally of vast numbers of greenskin vehicles could be heard, thick plumes of  black engine smoke stark against the grey sky. The objective would have to be won metre by bloody metre, a brutal slog where both men and xenos were but fodder. The Death Korps of Krieg would have it no other way. This was their way of war, their way to atone.

The advance continued at a steady pace, they didn’t hurry into combat with false notions of glory nor did they slow with fear or trepidation of what was to come. The relentless march of the grim men of the 252nd continued in the same measured pace it had set at its outset. Each man ready to do his duty and eager to sell his life for the Imperium his ancestors had almost deserted.

Once again the SN crew are here to bring to you another awesome battle report! Today’s game sees Alex bring his stunning Death Korps of Krieg to face off against the Studio Ork (Grot) army. As per usual the SN team setup another fantastic board in preparation to what is set out to be a great battle.
We thought we’d bring something a bit different for today’s game scenario-wise. The crates will all act as objectives, but with a twist. Each crate will grant the Death Korps 3 victory points, while the Orks will be set out to destroy them. For each one removed by the Orks they will gain a victory point. We are using the following profile for the crates, T6 W5 Sv7+

Deployment

The Big Mek Smasher guns get setup on top of a rocky outcrop giving them better line of sight over the battlefield. The grots hide behind shielding them from being targeted from oncoming fire.

Deployment

The Burner Bomber is deployed along one of the flanks ready to swoop across the battlefield to hopefully leave a trail of death and destruction along the way.

Deployment

The Kill Tank rolls up in the heart of the Orks forces ready to live up to its name and kill. The grot in the birds nest keeps an eye out looking for his favourite enemy tank to ruin first.

Deployment

On the Death Korps of Krieg front the Engineers stay huddled together using the Leman Russ as cover. A tactic that has proven to work by their ancestors many a millennia ago. The Quad Launchers line up alongside ready to carpet the ground with a barrage of death.

Deployment

At the forefront of the Death Korps frontline are the Leman Russ’s not shying away from whatever the Ork forces have brought to bear.

With the deployment over both sides roll off for first turn and it’s the Orks who have clenched it today.

Alex attempts to steal the initiative but fails, even after exhausting one of his command points, and with that now it’s on to Orks turn 1!
Turn 1 (Orks)

Over on the Death Korps side of the battle they can see large clouds of smog along with a cacophony of gears grinding, metal clanging and exhausts chugging. It is apparent that the Orks are drawing closer.

Turn 1 (Orks)

The tiny Grot Tanks whizz up the battlefield moving 12″ and firing an assortment of arsenals at the closest crate, leaving it on one wound remaining. It is imperative that they remove as many crates as possible to limit the enemies chances in capturing any.
