Lhote shivered under his heavy robes despite the scorching desert wind. He never got used to the curious sensation of feeling air moving through his empty eye sockets. The desert air of Aral III brought with it the stench of sulphur and blood. Lhote didn’t have to use his psychic gifts to see from whence it came from, he could hear the unholy cacophony of their approach. A never-ending din of roars, screeches and, worst of all, human chanting. Lhote tried not to listen to their guttural exhortations, their baleful litanies of hate and murder. He felt a rising warmth to his right. Not a psychic reaction so much as his psychic awareness reacting to a powerful presence.
“Master Astropath.” The voice was melodious and cultured, not at all what he expected, not at all the bellicose baritone of the Astartes. Lhote bowed low before the new arrival, “My Lord Custodian.” Lhote had heard it said that to look upon a Custodes was to see perfection in human form. He had heard it and he had believed it but devoid of his earthly vision he could only see the shield captain through the medium of witch sight. The Custodes glowed like a miniature sun, a burning corona of purity that was too bright to be perceived directly for long giving out waves of radiance that burned his mind’s touch. Below him on the expanse before the relay stations walls a score of stars shone painfully bright like a constellation sundered from the heavens and shackled to human form. If they were glorious to mortal eyes, to Lhote they were akin to the most magnificent of celestial phenomena. “Please, step inside, the enemy comes and we must prepare.” Even his manner was near perfect. Not once since his arrival scarcely an hour before had he issued an order or raised his voice. He asked and it was done, no one could deny or argue with such an august being. As Lhote turned to leave the crenellated balcony he paused and turned once more towards the shield captains stellar presence. “If I may, what brought you here? We’ve received no warnings of the enemies approach nor of your coming. We were certain of our doom then you appear at our gate… How?” The Custodes turned his full attention towards Lhote and he quailed under the searchlight intensity of it. He stood there for a painfully long moment considering his response then uttering a single word. “Dreams.” He must have noted Lhote’s quizzical expression for he allowed himself a chuckle. “Come now Master Astropath, surely your kind must appreciate the power of such things.” He laughed again as he turned and marched from the battlements, his crimson cloak snapping in the desert wind and his golden spear tapping on the stone floor in-time with his step. “Once this unpleasantness is done we can engage in more fruitful conversation Master Astropath.” he called over his shoulder leaving Lhote bewildered on the balcony, clutching the Aquila that hung round his neck so tightly that it drew blood.

Hello all and welcome back to another SN Report! And today’s report is like no other seen before! We’ve got an absolutely awesome board set up by the SN Team, as well as two beautifully painted forces ready to fight to the death. With our little teaser video released on the SN Battle Reports YouTube channel, we mentioned how this game had a very unique mission. The Daemonic Forces of Chaos, partnered up with World Eaters Marines are attempting to force their way through the gate nearest to the Custodes. Behind this gate sits an Astropathic Relay, and seizing it will prove vital to the war between the Imperium and Chaos. At the end of the game, the army with more models closest to the gate will be declared the winner, as they drive back or slaughter what is left of the opposing forces. An awesome setting for a game!

Atop the wall sits Master Astropath Lhote. He oversees the battle, his only hope of the gate not being breached being the golden clad Custodes to his bottom right. Although previously nervous, the presence of the Adeptus Custodes eases his mind, allowing him to continue relaying information in his usual fashion.
The Forces of Chaos begin deployment, as the Mounted Chaos Lord stands right behind his trusted Flesh Hounds, as they begin to bound and leap in place, waiting for their Master’s orders. Their keen eyesight locking onto the Custodes from across the battlefield as they begin to snarl lowly.
And deployed on the other flank of the battlefield, we see Kharn the Betrayer surrounded by Cultists. The Greatest Mortal Champion of Khorne waits eagerly in anticipation of the bloodshed to come, his legendary weapon Gorechild’s low hum bringing fear even to the Cultists around him, knowing of its reputation.
Two Maulerfiends deploy behind even more Flesh Hounds, these devilish creatures, part beast and part machine dig their claws into the ground, ready to pounce into battle, as their Lasher Tendrils flail around violently.
On the other side of the battlefield, guarding the gate relentlessly, stand the Emperor’s very own Adeptus Custodes. The Storm Shield units stand in front of their brothers, in order to take the brunt of the blows that will be coming their way.
With the majority of the Custodes forces deployed in front of the gate, Steven G places his Contemptor Dreadnought on the left flank of the battlefield, knowing that its quick movement will allow him to get into the fray if need be.
Both players roll off, with Steven G having a +1 to his roll. Despite this being a unique mission, they are still incorporating gaining a +1 to roll offs just like in the Chapter Approved Missions. Steven G manages to win the roll off, and Pardo wastes no time attempting to steal the initiative. He rolls and…. unfortunately doesn’t manage to steal. On a more positive note however, the “I JUST STOLE” dice are now on sale on the SN Website Store! Make sure to get your hands on your very own one! But with both sides deployed, and Steven G winning the roll off, let’s get Custodes Turn 1 started!
Turn 1 (Adeptus Custodes)

The Shield Captain yells out a loud order, his authoritative voice reaching all of the Custodes, as he tells them to move ever so slightly, in order to ensure the gate is best defended, as the Custodes begin to move a few steps further back, now knowing what is to come.

Turn 1 (Adeptus Custodes)

The Contemptor Dreadnought moves to the location which was once occupied by the Land Raider, and vice versa, as the Land Raider moves to the left flank of the forces. Four Lascannons lock onto the Soul Grinder, and fire. The high-powered beams fire across the battlefield almost instantaneously, hitting the Soul Grinder dead centre in the chest, the impact sending it stumbling backwards. Steven G manages to deal an impressive 9 wounds to it, by spending the first Command Point of the game to re roll one of the Damage results!

Turn 1 (Chaos)

The bloodthirsty Chaos forces charge up the battlefield, weapons in hand with loud screams as they eagerly run towards the Custodes. The Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage in an effortless leap, advances forwards, its large axe looking to cleave through the forces of the Imperium, and Master Astropath Lhote’s last hope.

Turn 1 (Chaos)

The Mounted Chaos Lord digs his heels into his giant Flesh Hound, as it lets out a bellowing howl; the sign for the Flesh Hounds to advance. Without hesitation, they begin charging forward towards the Custodes forces, looking to tear them limb from limb.
