Battle Report (Eldar Corsairs vs Grey Knights)

The cold blue light of Theobald’s Star shone through the massive stained glass window that dominated the strategium on the Pentacost, its steel framework casting a hexagrammic shadow on the marble floor of the cavernous hall. A complex geometric ward worked into the marble with silver filigree dominated the centre of the strategium, at each of the patterns cardinal points stood a silver armoured giant, their grossly oversized swords and halberds held ceremonially before them. At the nexus of this esoteric arrangement an unarmoured figure addressed the gathered demigods. “The prognostication stands through its third revisitation. The monastery of St. Harmonia has or will shortly be destroyed by Eldar Corsairs.”  Silence followed this statement, not even the rumble of the strike cruisers plasma engines labouring at maximum burn could disturb the unnatural stillness of the strategium sanctum. One of the armoured giants broke the silence with his thunderous voice, “What of the crypt? Has the Catoblepean Oubliette been disturbed?” The prognosticator shook his bare head “I do not know, the prognostication shows only the fate of the monastery itself. The possibility that… It has been awakened remains…”  “Then we must attack at once, secure the ruins and reseal the wards before it rises from its slumber!” Interjected another Justicar.  “Quite so, speed is of the essence. If it awakens fully we have not the strength to best it.” Added a third Astartes.  A librarian, his rune etched staff held rigidly upright before him spoke next.  “What were the Eldars intentions? Do they seek to free the monstrosity? Do they know of its incarceration beneath the inner shrine? If so the implications are…”  His question was cut off by Grand Master Draigo’s interjection. “Questions for another time. Now is the time for action. Gather your men and make for the embarkation deck. We go to war.”

Another day and another awesome board by the team. All seems quiet in these abandoned snowy ruins, but that will most certainly change very soon as the white snow will surely turn red. Awesome to finally have the Eldar Corsiairs back on the table for the first time in 8th Edition. Hold on to your seats girls and boys this is going to be a good one!
The SN dice dictate the 6 starting objectives, although neither side knows which 2 objectives they’ll be fighting for yet. Special thanks to Dave WIlliamson for these great dice Objectives.
Deployment

Steven deploys his Landraider on the centre of his deployment zone, which is transporting Draigo and a unit of Terminators. A unit to be reckoned with!!

Deployment

Each Dreadknight gets placed on both flanks of the Grey Knights deployment zone, ready to Gate of Infinity themselves to where they are needed. Lovely paint job on these guys by the talented John Causton.

Deployment

The Corsair forces deploy along the back lines, the Phoenix Bomber and Cloud Dancer jetbikes protecting the Warp Hunters from any unexpected turn 1 charges. Julian then wins the first roll off and with Steven failing to steal the initiative it’s a turn 1 for  the Corsairs. Lets do this!

Turn 1 (Corsairs)

The Corsairs begin their movement phase by having a unit of Shadow Spectres leap up into the building in front of them to get into position to fire at the Land Raider. The remaining Shadow Spectres are more conservative in their movement as Julian is well aware that the Grey Knights will probably want to remove them as early as possible. The Jetbikes move to create some denial zones for the enemy reinforcements, while the Phoenix Bomber flies across to begin harassing the back line.

Turn 1 (Corsairs)

The only unit of Shadow Spectres in range charge up their Prism Rifles and focus it all at the Land Raider. However the resilience of the Land Raider’s armour proved too much and the Shadow Spectres were only able to remove a single wound.

Turn 1 (Corsairs)

The Phoenix Bomber breaks through the clouds and zooms across the battlefield getting itself prepared for a bombing run against the Dreadknight. Even after unleashing its full arsenal of weaponry, the Dreadknight only sustained two wounds.

Turn 1 (corsairs)

It was now down to the rest of the Corsair long range fire to bring down the Dreadknight. Combined shooting from the Skyreavers, Jetbikes and Fire Prism removed another six wounds, but the Dreadknight refused to give up his ground. With just the Warp Hunter left, it charges up its D-Flail to disintegrate what’s left of it, firing three shots and wounding with two. The Grey Knight resistance continued to show itself and both impacts were absorbed by the Dreadknights Power Field.

Turn 1 (Grey Knights)

The Land Raider doesn’t hold back and moves full speed ahead to the heart of warzone. Amazing free hand by the talented John Causton.

Turn 1 (Grey Knights)

A sudden burning pulse of light and deafening crackle of lightning emanates on the Corsairs western flank. The Grey Knight reserves have arrived…
