Battle Report (Blood Ravens vs Orks)

2
1053

Eidolon swung his thunder hammer two-handed throwing all his transhuman might into the swing, his intended target vaporised upon impact with its now liquidised remains scattering in a gruesome ark. The Orks cared not for this display, the utter obliteration of their college only increased their eagerness to close with the Blood Ravens to rip and tear. Sergeant Eidolon knew this and his ostentatious display was part of his plan. He followed through with his wild swing turning it into a spin, angling his hammer upwards to bring it over his head and crashing down in a pulverising overhead strike that detonated the thunder hammers power generator resulting in an explosion that forced the encroaching Orks back enough for his battle brothers to add their mass reactive fury to the fight. The Blood Ravens poured volley after volley into the green mass that had threatened to envelope them just moments ago. Sergeant Eidolons actions had bought them time and won them space in which to form their firing line, the greenskin wave stopped and then receded under the weight of their fire leaving behind a gore bedecked carpet of xenos corpses in its place. Sergeant Eidolon raised his hammer above his head and roared at his brothers “To me Blood Ravens! For the Emperor and the unknown Primarch!”  As one the Blood Ravens marched forth to ram home their advantage.

Coming to you from the studio, the SN Team have yet another fantastic report to satisfy your Warhammer cravings. And indeed, what a pleasure it is for us to show off the newest army to grace the gaming tables of Gibraltar. Aaron’s new Orks, however, are not total newcomers to the studio, in fact the army is very well known among Gibraltar’s gaming community having made a memorable appearance at the 2016 No Retreat II tournament. Expertly painted by Toby Liddiard, this force won him the Best Painted Army award at No Retreat. And looking at this beautiful army on the table today, it is clear to see why Toby won this award two years ago. Taking on Aaron and his wall of Orky behemoths, Jamie makes his return to the studio. Back from university and with an improved Blood Ravens army, led by Gabriel Angelos no less, it will be interesting to see whether these well disciplined marines can hold off against the clanking, lumbering creations from the Big Mek’s workshop and secure the relic for the chapter and the Emperor. What is already shaping up to be a riveting battle is only improved by the amazing board set up by the SN Team, the detailed ruins giving this epic clash between old enemies an elegant backdrop.
When a distress signal was sent out by the citizens of this imperial world that the Ork menace had reached their home and their fungal spores were beginning to set into the planet’s soil, Gabriel Angelos, passing through a nearby system on the Omnis Arcanum, gathered the loyal marines of the third company and took it upon himself to destroy the fungal threat before it could take hold. With his mission well underway, elements of the Blood Raven’s force are stopped by an Ork Big Mek determined to secure the future of the Ork race on this world.
Deployment (Orks)

Jamie wins the roll off and opts for Aaron to deploy first. He begins by setting up his Killa Kans as close as he can to the Blood Raven’s line, using the ruins for cover.

Deployment (Orks)

The Gorkanaut’s take center stage, ready to lumber up the battlefield delivering a hail of ‘dakka’ from their Deffstorm mega-shootas before laying into the space marine’s line with their gargantuan Klaw’s of Gork, or possibly Mork… What a delight to see such amazingly painted miniatures featuring in this report.

Deployment (Space Marines)

To counter the aggressive posture of Aaron’s deployment, Jamie deploys his Blood Ravens defensibly with the aim of weakening his enemy before making a move to capture the relic. Jamie makes good use of his deep striking Assault Marines to delay placing any miniatures on the table until absolutely necessary. What a pleasure it was to see this army on the battlefield again, with the addition of Gabriel Angelos the game really felt like a scenario out of the fantastic Dawn of War games.

Deployment (Space Marines)

The Vindicare Assassin is positioned high in some ruins, staying well away from the fighting while keeping the Big Mek in his scope. Yet another awesome model featuring in this report, the inverted colour scheme really helps this assassin mesh well with the Blood Ravens army and make it quite a unique model.

Although he secured his prefered deployment zone, Jamie fails to secure first turn against Aaron’s greenskins. He then fails to seize the initiative.
Turn 1 (Orks)

In a frenzy of clanking the Deff Dreads and Killa Kans advance up the board towards the Blood Ravens, belching out thick black smoke from their exhaust pipes. They will now be in range to pelt the Marine line with their crude but deadly ‘Rokkits’ in the following turn.

Turn 1 (Orks)

The big ‘n’ stompy Gorkanaut’s begin their determined lumber up the board. Every step made by these colossal ‘mekanical’ creations shakes the earth beneath the Blood Ravens feet. With a deep hum and loud thudding, the Deffstorm mega-shootas begin to tear into the tactical squads before them with spiraling rokkits finding their way into the armour of a Razorback.

Turn 1 (Orks)

A Tactical Squad falls to the ‘deffining’ storm of fire hailing down on them from the two Gorkanaut’s relentless mega-shootas allowing Aaron the victory point for first blood. After following a chaotic and almost uncontrollable flight path several of the rokkits find their target and remove three wounds from a Razorback.

Turn 1 (Space Marines)

Fearing the Orks will breach their lines sooner than expected, by Jump Pack Assault, Jamie deploys two Assault Squads behind the Killa Kans hoping to tie them up so that the rest of the army can sure up its position. Despite their best efforts to find a weakness in their armour, the space marine’s bolt pistols only marginally damage a single Kan.
