Battle Report (Death Guard vs World Eaters)

He stood at the crest of a colossal crater carved out only moments prior to an apocalyptic orbital barrage that brought wrath and ruin to the once sprawling metropolis below. His chain-axe already dripped with the blood of those unfortunate enough to survive the bombardment. Khârn raised his axe skyward, the chains wrapped around his arms rattling against the blood red armour of the World Eaters Legion. It was a signal to his personal hunting pack. In response, the squad of bikers revved their engines in howling excitement. Khârn made planetfall during the orbital strike, uncaring of the losses incurred through such action, he wanted to be the first on the ground. With a drop of his gore clad weapon, the pack was set loose, hurtling towards the city ruins. The World Eaters approached the city limits, their pace slowing as they came across eldritch vegetation, growing virulently where no life could exist after such a barrage of death upon a city soon to be claimed by Chaos. The pack came to a complete halt, both warriors and beasts looked upon Khârn for an answer. The ruined skyscrapers began to turn green with fungus, followed by a thick fog amongst the rubble. A bellowing laugh came roaring out of the darkness. “You trespass in Nurgle’s plentiful garden, dog of Khorne. Your Master should tug on your leash and leave this hallowed ground” the deep voice echoed from the remaining city walls. Khârn knew only the sons of Mortarion could be so brazen against a World Eater advance, with the signs of Nurgle’s touch growing around him. “Death Guard.” He growled. Stepping forward Khârn ignored the words of warning, not knowing or caring about the potential size or composition of the Death Guard’s forces. His chain-axe kicked into life, it’s activation the only signal his followers needed. Khârn’s steps broke into a full-throttled run, his pack close behind.

As always, here we are once again with yet another treat in store for you all. Today we will see our brand new, beautifully grotesque Deathguard army commissioned by Siege Studios do battle against our more familiar World Eaters! For this game they’ll be moving around a ruined, industrial outpost with some new cranes and vehicles for added effect all sat nicely upon this astonishing game mat by Tabletop Tactics, available from their store!
Three Plague Marine units deploy side by side, covering as much ground as possible with some support from Hellbrutes by their sides as well as the Malignant Plaguecaster. Can you smell that?!
One of the flanks being occupied by a Hellbrute that stands uncomfortably under the old Imperial statue. You can almost feel an itch coming on when you look at these models.
The long and striking line of red forms, as the cultists take their shielding positions in case they get the first turn and are unable to make charges…in theory the more important units should be safe.
Taking a commanding position, the Lord and his Juggernaught set up in the centre of the deployment. From here, there will be no corner of the battlefield where his deafening commands will not be heard.
Chris and Steven roll off, the first turn goes to the World Eaters after Steven loses and the fails to steal too.
Turn 1 (World Eaters)

In what was a somewhat expected series of moves, the Bikers, Demon Prince and Maulerfiend zoom, leap and stampede forwards in a horrid amalgamation of flesh and machinery.

Turn 1 (World Eaters)

Along the “Red Line” we see the Lord and second Maulerfiend follow suit…as do the cultists behind, to the best of their ability at least. It has been made very clear that the World Eaters are not here to waste time and will be moving very aggressively to minimise their time outside of combat.

Turn 1 (World Eaters)

Opening fire down an alleyway between these ruins, this pod of Bikers manage to down a Plaguemarine already! Not a game-changing start by any means but helpful nonetheless.

Turn 1 (World Eaters)

The Havocs line up the perfect shot and begin to charge their Lascannons, the hulking weaponry held steady in the hands of the trained Chaos Space Marines. From their vantage point upon the ruins, they fire straight at the Helbrute, the powerful laser weaponry tearing right through the armour of the walker. Chris uses up his first Command Point of the game in order to re-roll one of his damage die, but proves to be fruitful, as it removes the Helbrute from the game immediately! First Blood to Chris and the World Eaters!

Turn 1 (World Eaters)

The Chaos Lord flies through the sky, crashing hard into the ground not far from the other Helbrute with the Jump Pack Assault rule. Power Fists at the ready, the Lord rushes right towards the Death Guard walker. The Helbrute follows the movements of the Chaos Lord as best it can, the Lord charging right towards it. Firing both of its Lascannons at it did not phase the Chaos Lord, as he opens both of his Fists up, eager to tear into the Helbrute’s armoured plates. He digs his fists firmly into the armoured carapace of the walker, however, in doing so he becomes lodged in place, unable to move and vulnerable to a return strike from the Helbrute. The walker tightens its own fist, slamming it hard into the side of the Chaos Lord, the impact dislodging the Chaos Lord from the Helbrute itself. Both parties take 3 wounds!

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The Death Guard begin their advance towards the World Eaters, looking to lay fire upon them in the ensuing turns to weaken them before they reach their ranks. The Plaguecaster moves along with the Plague Marines, as they surround the Psyker in order to protect him from all angles.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

Wasting no time and looking to assault the World Eaters as quickly as possible, the Lord of Contagion and Deathshroud Terminators enter the battlefield in the blink of an eye, flashing down unto the battlefield with their Teleport Strike. The Deathshroud Terminators provide much needed support for the Lord of Contagion, as they act like a barrier for him, able to take wounds on his behalf, allowing him to fight longer!
