Battle Report (Harlequins vs Imperial Fists & Crimson Fists)

Suffer not the witch to live, truer words had never been spoken. For the witch is insidious, cunning, and formidable. Like the rats that inhabit the hive cities, though innumerable in their number, the witch hides in plain sight, emerging only when she is ready and enacting her business under the cover of darkness. If left unchecked, the rat will take what it wants, one piece at a time, until there’s nothing left. If the rat is confronted it will flee until it believes it has no place to go, and then even a lowly rat becomes a threat, a formidable combatant, slippery and agile, taking pieces of a man wherever it can. But once caught, rats are fragile, and easily broken. And they must be broken, for where there is one, there are many.

Pedro Kantor, Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists—Lord Hellblade—wiped the sweat from his brow and surveyed the landscape before him. It was quiet. Cargo containers as far as the eye could see. Cranes swaying gently in the dusty breeze. At his back his forces assembled, their sounds of Adeptus Astartes’ organized, finely tuned march like music to his ears. He had heard these witches enjoyed music. Today they would hear their last sonnet, one of his own composition; an ode to the bolter and the chainsword. Perhaps the rats would scurry out of their holes at the sound of his melody, perhaps they would dance, and sing in tune.

He hoped they would. There were few things better than a good audience.

Raise your fists for another thrilling battle report guys and gals! Today we have the Crimsons AND Imperial Fists joining forces to form a deadly flurry of blows forged to take you the unseen enemy that is….the Harlequins! We’re sporting a new mat for this game from gamemat.eu. As per usual, we are very happy with it and I think it fits particularly well with this set of industrial looking terrain. With all that said, let’s get down to business…
Deployment. The Imperial Fists stick together and deploy largely along one flank. Although they are fighting on the same side, the Fists recognise that they can each do their jobs efficiently enough to succeed without depending too much on each other.
Deployment. Close by, the Leviathan Dreadnaught makes an appearance, promising heavy firepower support on legs.
On their flank, the Crimson Fist Leviathan sets up and is surrounded by a Marine squad for extra support.
Across the battlefield, in flashes of light and colour, the Harlequins make an entrance. A Troupe, accompanied by their more psychically capable cast members as well as the brooding Death Jester! With so many Shadowseers, this performance is bound to be spectacular.
With haywire blasters prep’d, the Skyweavers take position across from the Imperial Fist Leviathan hoping to apply some early pressure and with some luck, deal some decent damage fast.
Harlequins (Turn 1)

Movement. The curtains are drawn so to speak and the performers burst onto the stage! The anti-armour group make the first move as they all move towards the Leviathan in unison, all taking aim and making sure they have a clear shot.

Harlequins (Turn 1)

Elegantly making their way towards the audience, the Players close the distance and prepare to charge. With some choreographic help from the Shadowseers, they move twice thanks to Twilight Pathways and then use a CP to improve their invulnerable to a 3++ for this turn.

Harlequins (Turn 1)

The Shadowseers peak around the containers and prepare to cast smite. The famed story-tellers share a chilling tale as their songs reach the minds of the closest Marines, four freeze, collapse or simply die of fear. The rest are consumed by a Fog of Dreams leaving them in a whimsical state. Fog of dreams will make the unit -1 from their to-hit rolls.

Harlequins (Turn 1)

Shooting – Shuriken kills 4 marines, lance fails. Now in a good position, the vehicles open fire, letting loose thousands of slices of their plasti-crystal ammunition from the shuriken cannons at high velocities. The volley sees 4 Marines slain as the particles slice through their power armour and eviscerating internal organs. Alas they prismatic cannons seem to need some time to heat up as they fail to do any damage…this seems to be a recurring theme across games.

Harlequins (Turn 1)

In the blink of an eye the players present themselves before the Imperial Fists. Before they realise what is going on, the Captain has been targeted and suffers 4 wounds despite activating his relic. A lot of the punch is taken away for next turn as the Marines manage to take down two players.

Harlequins (Turn 1)

The Skyweavers zoom at the Leviathan. One hero pair take the brunt of the defensive fire and end up being burnt to a crisp. The rest do manage to strike the mechanical beast and deal a measly 2 wounds. Thankfully for the bikers they only receive a single wound in return. The Harlequins take note of their losses but morale stays strong.

Adeptus Astartes (Turn 1)

The Marines move tactically forth, covering all firing angles and possible flanks or ambushes. Here we can see how they all take full advantage of the behemoth that is the Leviathan and take cover behind it whilst covering its rear…for no one can really anticipate where the Harlequins could appear from.

Adeptus Astartes (Turn 1)

Crimson Fist Terminators inbound! They deepstrike in  at the flank of the group of vehicles…this could pose a problem to the Skimmers, at the very least a harmful distraction. They open fire at one of the transports but only achieve a single wound.

Adeptus Astartes (Turn 1)

Taking a somewhat bladed stance, the Leviathan raises his Melta arm and aims it at a Voidweaver. It begins thrumming as it colour changes, getting redder and brighter until completely white. The pitch increases constantly until a snap and hiss boom across the battlefield! The super-heated blast eats straight through the vehicles armour and destroys it in spectracular fashion, not much was left but a smouldering metal-like material that once was the chassis pooling in a crater.
