Battle Report (Deathwatch vs Necrons)

The howling of the wind was lost behind the scream of xenos particle whips and the sharp crack of gauss flayers. The undying cohorts of Necrons warriors marched in perfect lock step, every rank unleashing volleys in unison as they strode through the unremitting carnage of the battlefield. Tomb Blades shrieked past at breakneck speed firing all the while as they sought to suppress their foes. With near peternatural accuracy, the Necrons would be pretty knocked a brace of Necrons skimmers out of the air with a devastating volley of explosive rounds. The black and silver forms of the Deathwatch hugged cover and let up with the dizzying array of weapons and ammunition available to them. Hyper dense solid projectiles pierced Necrons bodies and embedded themselves on the warrior behind, explosive rounds cast shrapnel in the midst of the enemies precise formations, rounds detonated prematurely ejecting a corrosive glass that ate through the weaker sections of necrodermis or through more vulnerable joints. Though the methods of death dealing were many and varied their effect was uniformly terminal. With expertise unmatched throughout the vast Imperium the Deathwatch picked their Necrons foes apart targeting crypteks and lesser lords to minimise their immortal foes chance of reanimation. Tomb Spiders ghosted forwards using arcane science to phase through solid objects in their path and to mitigate the worst of the Deathwatches fire. Just as it seemed that the slow moving trio of floating mechanical horrors was about to hit the Astartes lines a flash of blinding light heralded the arrival of the xenos hunters counter attack. Colossal terminator plate still rimmed with frost and trailing transdiemensional ectoplasm, the veterans opened fire with their stormbolters, checking their foes with the weight of their fire before wading in to finish the job with their crackling power fists. Despite this it was clear the Deathwatch was doomed to lose this battle even as they slaughtered dozens of Necrons for every Astartes they lost. The arithmetic of war is unforgiving at best and rarely were the numbers as one sided as they were here. The Deathwatch were doomed to drown in a tide of living metal… But the mundane act of winning battles was not the Deathwatches function nor its aim. The shifting of the Necrons formation heralded their true purpose. A phalanx of Lychguard advanced, shields overlapping in a testudo formation offering perfect cover for the Necrons Overlord in their midst. Drawn by the slaughter of his thralls the Phaeron hastened to the point where his direct leadership was most needed as dictated by the faultlessly logical way they made war. This the xenos hunters had counted on. This was their mission, their target. Space marine bikers roared forwards death and vanguard veterans bounded forth leaving trails of fire in their wake. Kill teams forged ahead with fresh purpose; to behead the undead machine.

On this day the rampaging whirlwind of eternal war has struck this small Imperial supply depot. Emerging from deep within their stasis tombs, the soulless servants of the C’tan are met with thunderous bolter-fire, delivered ruthlessly by Space Marines from none other than the Ordo Xenos. There is no doubt Nick will show No Mercy towards the Deathwatch Marines, but Mark expects none, and his elite Marines, fulfilling their sacred task, are poised to lay waste to the undying Necrons before them. And what an incredible setting the SN Team have created for this debut battle report, featuring the new Deathwatch codex. Enormous credit must be given to XLC.co.uk for their amazing terrain. Without any more dally, let us set this arena aflame with battle.
Deployment

The battle lines are drawn. Nick deploys his Warriors to secure the center-field. Towering over them, Orikan the Diviner, the ancient Cryptek of the Sautekh Dynasty, keeps an watchful eye while providing some protection for the Warriors with Master Chronomancer and Technomancer abilities.

Deployment

The Tomb Blades silently hover towards the left flank of the Necron line. From the Deathwatch deployment zone, and even through their Shadowloom, their deadly Gauss Blasters can be seen glowing a deep green.

Deployment

“Suffer not the alien to live!” Mark deploys his forces to meet the Necrons. The Bikers, furiously revving their engines, secure the right flank and face off the Tomb Blades, with the rest of the Deathwatch extending across the field.

Turn 1 (Necrons)

Mark wins the roll-off, but his hopes for the first turn are crushed after Nick steals his initiative! The Necron army march up the board towards the Deathguard with the Canoptek Wraiths, their metallic whip-like tails tearing the earth they move over, advancing into assault range. Nick’s luck fails him here, however, only managing to roll a 1 on one of his charge dice; even after a command re-roll.
