Battle Report (World Eaters vs Iron Warriors)

“A sound like thunder roared across a grey sky so thick with ash and smoke it choked what little sunlight dared touch the blasted and cracked ground below. Only it wasn’t thunder, but the death scream of a gunship brought low by the mighty howl of a Sicaran’s punishing weaponry. At the foot of this mighty war-machine, the crazed, bloodthirsty servants of Khorne that called themselves the World Eaters bellowed, exultant and satiated, if only for the most fleeting of moments, for the blood God must always have more, and so too must its flock.

At the head of the column, the lord in command of the force scoured the terrain that lay ahead. There were buildings scattered around; many destroyed, others only partly, all of them empty. There would be no killing to be found here, however there stood the possibility that the crew of the fallen gunship had survived. This would not do. He would take his men, find any soul unlucky enough to have survived, and send them to Khorne, and then they would find more, and the cycle would continue.

With a stern gesture of his right hand, pointing decidedly across the empty shell that used to be a town standing between them and their prize, the engines of destruction at his back began to grumble; chain-swords and axes revving, boots stomping, tank tracks crunching the hard ground beneath. The sounds followed him as he marched, the continuous, low growl of a hungry animal searching for its wounded prey, eager to make the kill, but there came another sound, and the lord’s hand went up, his closed fist signalling for the column to stop. This command was met with anger and protests from the hungriest of his men, and he knew he would not be able to keep them still for long, but the sound he had heard persisted even after his own fell silent.

Thud… thud… thud… the ground began to tremble as the sound grew closer. A murmur of excitement moved through the World Eater’s ranks—fresh meat, something new and soft to kill. But the great shape that emerged from within the ruined settlement was not soft, or fleshy. The towering, iron monstrosity lumbered into view what faint sunlight there was glinting off its massive, armored hull. This was no pocket of human resistance, but an ancient machine of unparalleled destruction and brutality, a Leviathan. The beast’s siege drills began to whirr, it sounded a war horn that shattered what few windows remained intact, and then there were more war machines tearing through the ruined buildings—Land Raiders—accompanied by a battalion of Space Marines.

No, not Space Marines—they were traitors, Iron Warriors, brothers in arms in the long war against the false emperor and his dogs, but they were standing between his men and their kills, and now there was no turning back. There would be no negotiations, no going around the Iron Warriors, for he and his men were servants of Khorne, favoured of the Blood God, and there was plenty of blood to be spilled standing in front of them. Why settle for a morsel, when you can feast?”

As summer swelters on we return to the studio to bring you your weekly dose of Warhammer respite. And this week the SN Team have an exceptional match lined up for you, especially for all you Chaos worshipers out there. After a long leave of absence in the warp, Kevin and his World Eaters are back on the channel and ready to challenge Steven and the studio Iron Warriors. Why the warriors of the 11th Legion have come to blows with those of the 4th, it is difficult to say; perhaps Kevin’s bloodthirsty worshipers of Khorne are simply looking to collect more skulls for the Skull Throne. In any event, the SN Team have created another beautiful battlefield, featuring the studio’s newest terrain. However, I’m sure we can all agree that the time has now arrived to whether this new terrain with a sea of bloody and chaotic warfare!
