Battle Report (Crimson Fists vs Death Guard)

Nothing existed in the universe fouler than the stench of Nurgle’s diseased minions and sycophants. Though the Emperor had blessed his sons with masks, re-breathers, and enhanced lungs, there was no escaping the smell, because it was not a smell that attacked the nose—it was something else entirely, a beast unto itself, a daemon lashing at one’s soul even before the battle commenced. Today Nurgle was here, infecting all it touched with its putrid curse, spreading its taint upon this place. Once a home for the people of the Imperium, now the streets were littered with rotting corpses, maggots devouring their flesh, the process of decay accelerated by the presence of this disgusting beast.
A distress call had been sent out into the stars, a garbled cry for help from the planet’s primary settlement. It was the Crimson Fists who answered the call, brothers from the Battle Barge Copernicus rallying to answer the threat, making planetfall on drop pods expecting to find a parade of nurglings and minor creatures of the great devourer feeding and dancing on rotting corpses. With blessed, holy flame they would cleanse the settlement in the Emperor’s name and be done with the infestation; such was life in the dark, coldness of space.
What they did not expect to find, however, was a fully-fledged battalion of Death Guard traitors patrolling the settlement streets and securing the entrance to a dig site the Crimson Fists had not been aware of. Something much bigger was taking place here, but there was no time to call for reinforcements, no time to lose. Whatever the Death Guard had come looking for, they were close to finding it.
It was time to act, time for the Adeptus Astartes to take to the fray and bring death to the traitors… but as the Captain took charge of his force, leading it into the breach, bolters and autocannons raining the Emperor’s justice, he was left to wonder; what had the Death Guard come looking for, and who was leading their force?

Set Up

It would not be an understatement to say that Steven has been buzzing with excitement over the past couple of weeks waiting for the new additions to the studio Crimson Fists force to arrive. Last month the Crimson Fists suffered a defeat at the hands of Benji and his Death Guard, in this week’s report, however, Steven hopes his new and improved list will pose a much greater challenge to the elite servants of Nurgle. Taking up the mantle of chaos in Benji’s stead, veteran player and newest member of the SN Team, Shaggy will be fielding the Studio Death Guard, painted to perfection by the amazing Siege Studios. The battlefield, for the moment at least, stands silent. Abandoned ruined buildings tower over cobbled streets and are surrounded by bushy verges, the leaves of which rustle gently in the wind. A great deal of time has passed since this derelict town has felt the sting of battle. But as the two elite forces encroach, it is rudely reminded that ‘in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war…’
