Battle Report (Imperium vs Tyranids)

The Canoness moved as quickly as her power armour allowed through the ruined building, with several Dominions at her back. They were all that was left of the battalion of sisters that had been sent to investigate a sudden loss of contact from an outlying imperial world. They had known the Tyranids were here, but they were not expecting such a force. Their orders were to hold the infestation off, burn it with holy fire until help could arrive, but they’d been quickly overwhelmed.
How long had it been? One day? Seven?
She heard movement around a corner, a scuttling sound followed by a series of rapid clicks. With her hand raised, she bid her Dominions to wait while she, steeling her courage against the Emperor’s warmth, spun around the corner with her flamer raised. The corridor before her was dark, and hazy with dust from fallen debris, but in the midst of the darkness came a set of glowing amber eyes, a predator’s eyes.
“Burn in righteous flame,” she yelled, and holy fire erupted from the mouth of her flamer, bathing the corridor in a purifying inferno of ignited promethium and shedding light on the creature in the dark.
It had been a Tyranid Warrior once, now it was writhing mess of burning carapace and flesh, screeching in the throat of the tunnel. It died in a manner of seconds, but its death throes awoke within the belly of the building the cries of many, many more of its wretched kind; a cacophony of sound that could chill even the warmth of the Emperor’s touch.
They were coming, they were many, and the Canoness knew she’d quickly be overrun. Summoning her Dominions to her, she spat fire into the corridor, setting ablaze anything she could. If she was to die, then this would be her last stand. Then she felt it, the sudden rush of divine righteousness, the surge of hope. Though she couldn’t see beyond the confines of the ruin she and her Dominions were in, the Canoness knew, they had succeeded in their mission to hold out as long as possible. For outside, somewhere, the Saint herself was descending on wings of fire to deliver the Emperor’s divine will, to burn the Tyranid infestation at its roots, and to save her sisters from almost certain death.

Mark’s 14 Command Point list is made up by a Batallion of Adeptus Sororitas and a Super-Heavy Detachment of Imperial Knights.

Before the battle begins he spends three Command Points on the Exalted Court Stratagem turning two of the Knights into characters. He distributes his Warlord Trait selections as follows:
On the Gallant – Landstrider, which adds 2″ to the Advance and Charge rolls Knights within 6″ of the Gallant.
On the Paladin – Iron Bulwark, which increases the Paladin’s Ion Shield save to 4+.

Mark then spends a further three Command Points on Heirlooms of the Household.
On the Paladin – Sanctuary
On the Warden – Endless Fury

This leaves Mark with 8 Command Points for the game. An expensive spend before any shots have even been fired, nevertheless, Mark is on equal terms with Chema on Command Points.

Set-up

Up until this point Hive Fleet Kronos had been nothing but a minor nuisance for the Adeptus Ministorum stationed in this dark and desolate corner of Imperial Space. In fact, the Hive Fleet had been rather useful in stalling and weakening the forces of Chaos the sisters had been working so hard against. But their usefulness had ran its course. Less than a month ago the Hive Fleet began a fully fledged Invasion of an Imperial world. Although the world is nothing more than an abandoned wasteland dotted with small dusty towns which linger on as relics from the Age of Strife, the Sisters have an important relaying station on it which is crucial for the management of Imperial Navy fleet movements in the sector. Moreover the Tyranids had disrespected the sovereignty of Imperial space; this could not be permitted. Leading the charge alongside Saint Celestine, the Canoness of the Sisters sent to stop the Tyranids prudently petitioned the Ecclesiarchy for any aid they could send. Three Imperial Knights from House Hawkshroud answered. Knights from this house are famed for their honour and willingness to uphold past alliances and the three sent bear emblems which demonstrate the seriousness which they regard their alliance with the Sisters of Battle and the respect they have for them. This dusty town stands between the Sisters and the relay station, it is the crucial final step towards its recapture.

Back in the studio, after a long leave of absence cleaning the toilets at the Ecclesiarchy headquarters, Mark returns with his beautifully painted Sisters and incredible Imperial Knights. His opponent and No Retreat veteran, travelling to Gibraltar from the far and distant land of Algeciras, about a 20 minute drive from Gibraltar, Chema brings his amazing Tyranids back to the studio to take on Mark in, what we are certain will be, a bloody clash. Search and Destroy deployment is rolled and, as deployment begins and models start to appear on the fantastic battlefield the SN Team have set up, we move onto the mission…
