Battle Report (Adepta Sororitas vs Death Guard)

Aquinias’ unhealthy skies convulsed with a multitude of sickly hued clouds. Lightning shot through banks of vapour coloured like angry bruises that scudded through the heavens despite the lack of wind. The surface squelched underfoot as once solid ground rotted to putrid sludge that threatened to suck the valiant Adeptus Sororitas under to a grisly end. Dense banks of plague so thick that they seemed like single, solid yet amorphous beings of stupifying immensity moving over the sisters lines. Their buzzing drone drowning out the woosh of burning promethium as the Sororitas tried desperately to ward them off with purifying flame. The insectile servants of nurgle enveloped the defenders in a living cloud of filth and those that were not quick in securing their helms died horryfing deaths as thousands of plague flies forced their way down their throats, and in their ears and eyes, their bodies decaying from within even as they suffocated, their lungs exploding and liquifying under the malign influence of tens of thousands of nurgle’s tiny servants. Even in their hermetically sealed suits of power armour the Sisters were not free of the torment as the daemonic pests jammed their boltguns moving parts with their bodies and occluded their eye lenses in a dense press. The pressure ended suddenly as a golden light washed over the morass, the plague flies falling like marionettes with their strings cut. Their lifeless forms created huge drifts, berms composed of billions of dead drones behind which the Sororitas hurriedly cleared their weapons. Saint Celestine soared over her beleaguered sisters, golden and cleansing light radiating from her beatific form. Wherever The Living Saint came thither nurgle’s vile gifts receded and the Sororitas gave voice to their renewed faith in their saviour, the Hymnal of the Emperor Resplendent echoing throughout their number as the sisters stood unbowed before the foetid hordes.
It was then that their enemy showed it’s true and terrible face. Through the pestilent fog could be glimpsed nurgles noisesome champions. Rank upon rank of Death Guard marched forward each a giant in distended, rusting and thoroughly corrupted plate which wept foul and viscous fluid from dozens of rents as tentacled limbs smothered in slime moved with liquid grace contrasting with the shambling and grotesque forms they sprouted from. Their number and form were legion but the true threat hovered above the mire at their head. A giant amongst giants yet gaunt where his children were corpulent and possessed of a pair of membraneous wings which beat lethargically against air rendered thick by decay. In his deathly grip he held an obscenely proportioned scythe that dripped with toxins so virulent that the very air curdled around it. The Adeptus Sororitas knew his name though none dared to utter it lest it draw his attention. Mortarion the Reaper. Fallen son of the Emperor. They redoubled their prayers and raised their voices to the heavens though fear of the reaper stole its way into all their hearts. All except The Living Saint who’s glorious golden form was in everyway a counterpoint to the fallen Primarch. With a flourish of her ardent blade she swept towards her spiritual lieges wayward son on numinous wings determined to right ten millennia of wrongs.

Hello all and welcome back to SN Battle Reports. Today, we have a very special report coming your way. Shaggy will be piloting the newly updated Studio’s Death Guard, featuring some amazing units painted by the fantastic team at Siege Studios. Who could have the strength to face this pustular force of hulking Chaos Space Marines do I hear you say? The Adeptus Soroitas maybe? They proved themselves against the Hive-Fleet Kronos a few weeks past and now, with their brand new beta codex at their disposal, how could the Death Guard thwart their determined drive for victory? While the players prepare themselves, the SN Team set up the fiery wasteland upon which today’s battle will be waged. They ensure there are tall terrain pieces which block line of sight, as well as large open and exposed areas in which both sides can duke it out.
With the new Chapter Approved having been released, both Shaggy and Steven decide on a suitable mission, coming to the conclusion that The Four Pillars would be appropriate. In The Four Pillars mission, lines are drawn from the centre of the battlefield, with four objectives being placed 15″ away from the centre. To mark out these objectives will be using the wonderful Tabletop Tactics objective coins.
And here we see some of the new units painted up by Siege Studios, Poxwalkers and one of the two Plagueburst Crawlers. It is important to note that all of the missions in the new Chapter Approved have gone back to the old style of deployment, that being one army deploying first, followed by the second one. The Chapter Approved has also brought about some points reductions on many units for Death Guard.
The heavy-footed Plague Marines trod onto the battlefield slowly, the warm, cracked earth beneath their feet making the odour of the pustulent Death Guard almost unbearable. Unlike other battle reports, Shaggy has decided to field a huge unit of Death Guard in the centre of the battlefield, looking to make use of the unit’s hardiness.
The tracks of the second Plagueburst Crawler slowly come to a halt, as it positions itself at the edge of the deployment zone, looking to be in range during the upcoming turn. Once again, a shout out to Siege Studios for the fantastic services they have provided for us here at SN. Incredible paint jobs, done quickly and affordably.
And making an arrival on the battlefield after their absence of a few months, the Adepta Sororitas! The power armour clad Sisters march in rank and file up along the battlefield, fearing not the host of malignant Chaos Marines up ahead. Steven deploys close to the two objectives, which he strategically placed on his deployment side, allowing him to hold two of them from the very beginning.
The rumbling of vehicles grows louder and louder as the seconds go by. Suddenly, they all come to a halt. Behind them, the sound of giant wings beating resonates, the gracious sight of Saint Celestine, the Living Saint imbues the battlefield with her inspiring presence. Following closely behind the Living Saint, an Exorcist tank joins, smoke excreting from its Exorcist Missile Launchers, as the Battle Sister controlling it begins to input the data for the coordinates of the Death Guard.

Faith Points now work slightly differently; Adepta Sororitas players now start with 3 of them, and gain an extra 1 for every ten models they have that have the Acts of Faith Ability. Each Act of Faith ability can only be attempted once per battle round, and the player must spend one Faith Point in order to do so. An Act of Faith has a Devotion Value and, in order to be successful when using an Act of Faith, the player must make a roll equal to or higher than the Devotion Value. As the battle starts, Steven spends a Command Point to get a second relic, choosing to take the Book of St. Lucius, a relic that increases the range of the bearer’s auras by 3″. With both sides deployed, let’s get this show on the road.

With no more plus 1’s for finishing deployment first, it’s a straight die roll from both players. Shaggy manages to out-roll Steven, however this does not phase him, picking up the die once more and attempting to steal the initiative. With Steven’s lucky rolling, he does indeed manage to steal, meaning the Sisters of Battle will be kicking this battle off.
Before the battle truly begins, the Rhinos transporting Dominion Squads make an advanced move thanks to their Vanguard rule, allowing them to make a full advance before the game starts, giving them an edge in the movement phase.
Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

As a result of his opponent having the first turn, Shaggy has access to the Prepared Positions Stratagem, which he intends on using. Spending 2 Command Points, all units wholly within Shaggy’s deployment zone gain the benefits to cover, even if they are not in cover. An excellent move on Shaggy’s behalf to attempt to thwart any initial damage done by Steven.

In a split moment, the Sisters of Battle begin to pour out of their transports, all of them assuming a unified rank and file, their assortment of melta weaponry creating the frontline. Saint Celestine soars through the battlefield, the giant wings on her back buffeting the surrounding ground.

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

At the start of the Movement Phase, Steven tries his luck at using his first Act of Faith. He chooses to use Hand of the Emperor; upon success, the nominated unit can add an extra 3″ to their movement characteristic for the rest of the Movement Phase. Steven is successful with the Act of Faith, allowing him to move right up onto the objective.

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

With the Shooting Phase starting, Steven decides to use his second Faith Point of the game. He chooses to use the Divine Guidance Act of Faith, which will add 1 to the Canoness to hit roll. Then Pardo opts to use another 3cp to use Vessel of the Emperor’s Will which will allow Divine Guidance to affect all units within 6” of the Canoness.

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

Steven opts to spend 2 Command Points to use the Blessed Bolts Stratagem on the Dominion Squad. This gives all models wielding Storm Bolters a -2 to their AP characteristic, as well as increasing them to Damage 2 each. Steven then also uses Faith and Fury, allowing him to re-roll wounds of 1 made for the Dominion Squad. Despite so many Command Points being spend, the Dominion Squad only manage to slay 3 of the Plague Marines, their holy ammunition tearing through the Plague Marines with ease. However, some of the wounds were not deep enough to cause a fatality, as the hulking Marines stumble backwards, only to compose themselves once more and step forward. Could this have been a bit of a waste on Steven’s behalf, especially with so many other tough units staring him down on the other side?

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

The closest Dominion Squad splits fire, shooting the Meltaguns at the Plaguecrawler, whilst the Boltgun armed Sisters fire at the Poxwalkers. The Meltaguns pour hot streams of focused energy at the vehicle, however some incredible saving sees Shaggy making 4 invulnerable saves, negating all of the incoming damage and inevitably saving himself from what could have been truly catastrophic. The rest of the unit are slightly more fruitful, managing to slay a total of 3 Poxwalkers.

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

However, Shaggy’s luck is about to run out, as the second Dominion Squad fires everything at the Plaguecrawler. Meltas, joined by Bolter fire penetrate and pepper the armoured plates of the vehicle, until they come loose, leaving a large gap for the meltas to incinerate. Shaggy is not able to make his saves this time round, resulting in 3 meltas making it through, dealing enough damage to wipe the tank out in one go! It then also explodes, killing off 2 Poxwalkers, dealing 3 Mortal Wounds to the Daemon Prince, and taking out 2 Dominions from each squad. Worth it? I think it still might be, First Blood to Steven!

Turn 1 (Adepta Sororitas)

The Battle Sister locks on to the coordinates of the Plague Marine unit. As she inputs the data, the Missile Launcher begins to fire a flurry of projectiles high into the sky, as they whistle on their way down to the ground, finding their targets. Large explosions litter the ground around the Plague Marines, as they duck and attempt to take cover wherever they can nearby. Finally, one of the missiles lands directly in the centre of the unit, scattering them and creating a huge crater in the ground. As the dust settles, huge mounds of rubble and rock cover the Plague Marines partially. They begin to dig themselves out, but notice that yet another 2 of their brothers have fallen. A total of four have been slain so far, however, there are another fifteen that Steven has yet to go through.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

After a very aggressive first turn from Steven, Shaggy looks to inflict some damage on the Sisters of Battle next. He begins his Movement Phase by moving the Plague Marines right up into the Dominions, closing the gap in hopes of charging them soon.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The slightly whittled Poxwalkers show no signs of halting, as they continue moving towards the closest objective. The limp and hobble towards the Battle Sisters seen in the distance, looking to overpower them and force them off of the objective.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The Psychic Phase then begins, and sees the Daemon Prince casting Miasma of Pestilence on the large unit of Plague Marines. With a successful cast, the Daemon Prince opens its vile maw, unleashing a hail of flies and putridness, as they surround the Plague Marine unit and mask them, inferring a -1 to hit that unit until the next Psychic Phase. Following that, the Malignant Plaguecaster looks to cast Curse of the Leper on the nearby Dominion Squad. To counteract this, Steven spends a Faith Point for the Act of Faith Aegis of the Emperor. A holy bulwark impedes the hellish attempts from the Plaguecaster to harm them, allowing them to ignore Mortal Wounds on the roll of a 4+. Finally, the Plaguecaster casts Putrescent Vitality on the Plague Marine unit, adding 1 to both their Strength and Toughness Characteristics.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The Plaguecaster waves his Corrupted Staff, letting out a Chaotic chant. Moments after, a bolt of green energy darts towards the Battle Sisters, seeping in through their Power Armour, as their bodies begin to fall victim to the atrocious powers of Nurgle. Despite Steven being able to ignore wounds on a 4+, Shaggy manages to slay 2 of the Sisters.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

Shaggy spends 1 Command Point on the Blasphemous Machines Stratagem, allowing him to ignore the -1 for shooting after moving the Plagueburst Crawler.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

Split firing, the Plagueburst Crawler targets the unit of Dominions, as well as the Exorcist. Firing its Plaguespitter at the Dominions, it manages to slay a total of 6 Sisters, as the wretched flames engulf the unit entirely, the screams of the Battle Sisters can be heard throughout the entire battlefield from the agonising pain. Meanwhile the Plagueburst Mortar fires at the Exorcist, the giant globules exploding onto the Adepta Sororitas vehicle and corroding the armoured plating of it, dealing 3 wounds.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The Plague Marine unit then fires into two of the Dominion Squads, a slew of Bolter fire accompanied by Plasma fire burning through a total of 5 Sisters, 2 from one and 3 from the other. Shaggy then chooses to multicharge into 3 units, the two Dominion units and the Canoness.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The hulking Daemon Prince also charges into the only unit in range, that being the one that was shot at by the Plagueburst Crawler earlier on. Dashing in and hastily as the huge Daemon can, he swings his Hellforged Sword horizontally, the rusty blade slicing cleanly through the torsos of the Battle Sisters in one fell swoop, before he looks to move onto the next available unit.

Turn 1 (Death Guard)

The Canoness fends off the oncoming waves of Plague Marines, riposting each oncoming attack, redirecting them around her. The Plague Marine Champion pushes aside the other Marines, clenching his Power Fist tightly. Hurling his arm backwards, he then swings it forward towards the Canoness, using its heft, as well as his momentum to send the giant fist hurdling down into her head. The powerful blow strikes her dome hard, sending her crashing through into the front spikes that adorn the Rhino, the sharp metal tips tearing right through the Canoness’ Power Armour as she is slain in one quick round of combat. Meanwhile, the other Plague Marines bash away at the Battle Sisters, killing another 4 Sisters from the Dominion Squad. Steven uses yet another Faith Point in the Morale Phase for Light of the Emperor Act of Faith, allowing him to automatically pass morale on that unit.

At the end of Turn 1, Steven managed to gain 2 Victory Points, one for First Blood, and another for holding more objectives than Shaggy. Meanwhile, Shaggy sits on 0 Victory Points, it proved to be a fruitless point scoring turn for him.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

The last remaining Battle Sister Squad finally disembarks from their transport vehicle. The Sisters quickly tread through the battlefield, their targets set firmly on the Daemon Prince, as they look to bring righteous vengeance down upon the devout of Nurgle.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

Steven cleverly decides to move his vehicles closer to each other, all the while still advancing with Celestine. Doing this means that units need to funnel their way into Celestine, which stops a mass of Plague Marines swinging at her in the combat phase. Very smart planning from Steven sees him making the most out of his Rhinos. It is also important to note that now, the Geminae Superia are a separate unit from Saint Celestine, albeit performing a similar role as before.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

In an attempt to whittle down the large Plague Marine unit that poses a threat to all of the Battle Sister units, Steven decides to fire into them with as many units as possible. Between the newly disembarked Battle Sisters, along with all of the Rhinos, a mass of Bolter and Storm Bolter fire sees another 2 of them being killed.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

Shaggy misjudges the positioning of the Daemon Prince, resulting in it being the closest unit to the Exorcist. Picking up on this, the Exorcist now dials in its new coordinates, as the Exorcist Missile Launcher begins to fire once more. An awesome round of firing from this vehicle sees 4 more wounds being removed from the Daemon Prince, leaving it on just 1 wound left.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

Steven chooses to use yet another Faith Point, this time on the Act of Faith The Passion. Upon success, it allows his nominated unit to fight twice in the next Fight Phase. Needing to make a 5+, Steven prays for the roll that he needs and… he makes it! Celestine being able to fight once is scary enough as it is, so with fighting twice, she is ought to be terrifying.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

Seeing the Daemon Prince in its weakened state, the Battle Sisters close in on the offensive, charging directly into it. With it being down to one wound, Steven thought that it would be possible to pick up Slay the Warlord. However, he miscalculated the toughness of the Daemon Prince, as he is not able to kill it. Taking advantage of the slip up, the Daemon Prince manages to slay three of the Battle Sisters, surely but slowly thinning down Steven’s units.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

Shaggy intercepts in combat by spending 2 Command Points, allowing him to pile in towards Celestine. The Plague Marines manage to wound numerous times, however the Geminae waste no time in taking the fall for the Living Saint, their rule Lifewards allowing them to take a Mortal Wound on behalf of Saint Celestine on a 2+ every time she would take a wound. This results in one of the Geminae dying, along with the other surviving on 1 wound.

Turn 2 (Adepta Sororitas)

The death of her Geminae do not go unpunished, as the embodiment of purity, Saint Celestine, swings The Ardent Blade, the sword itself glowing a bright, hot-white colour and staying true to its name. She launches herself deep into the middle of the Plague Marines, swinging wildly, yet gracefully, claiming the lives of 6 Plague Marines. The bone-chilling presence of a Living Saint sends shock-waves of fear through the Death Guard, as 4 more flee from morale.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

Entering the Death Guard Turn 2, we see Shaggy continuing to move forward with his units, in an attempt to close up the battlefield for his reinforcements which are soon to arrive.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

In a flash of light, two units of Blightlord Terminators enter the battlefield, the very ground in which they stand on beginning to decompose and lose any form of life. They arrive to the battlefield via Teleport Strike, arriving on either side of the battlefield, making good tactical use of trapping the Adepta Sororitas in the middle of the, allowing them to fire and thin down the units from the outside, to then expose Saint Celestine.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

The Malignant Plaguecaster then attempts once more to cause mayhem during the Psychic Phase. Steven spends a Faith Point again on Aegis of the Emperor, to ignore wounds on a 4+. This is such a valuable tool that the Adepta Sororitas have! This proves once again to be incredibly useful, as only 2 Battle Sisters are lost in combat. As an added bonus, the Plaguecaster rolls a 12 when casting Curse of the Leper, resulting in the Psyker also taking 3 wounds.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

Once again, the Plagueburst Crawler fires at both a Battle Sisters unit, as well as the Exorcist. In similar fashion to last turn, it manages to kill off an impressive 5 Sisters. This time however, it fails to deal any damage whatsoever to the Exorcist tank.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

One of the two Blightlord Terminator squads make the charge into the Battle Sisters. Despite their best attempts at fending off the hugely armoured Death Guard, they advance relentlessly towards the Sisters. Bubotic Axes held firmly in their grasps, they hack away violently at the Adepta Sororitas, slaying a further 3 of them.

Turn 2 (Death Guard)

Flailing their arms around aimlessly, the Poxwalkers charge right ahead into the Rhino. They mindlessly slam their blunt, useless weapons away at the hull of the Rhino, but to no effect. The only positive to this being that next turn, the Rhino won’t be able to shoot.

At the end of Turn 2, Steven gains a further 2 Victory Points, having killed more units and held more objectives once again. Shaggy gains a measly 1 Victory Point for Slay the Warlord.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Steven uses the Spirit of the Martyr Act of Faith, bringing back one of the Geminae to full strength, before Celestine brings the other back to life on one wound with her Healing Tears Special Rule.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Steven continues to advance forward into the Death Guard lines, slowly, but surely closing off the area into which Shaggy’s forces can escape to. The Rhinos trundle along on the battlefield, Storm Bolters set on the targets ahead of them.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Leading her devoted Geminae, Saint Celestine zooms around the side of the battlefield, getting herself and both Geminae Superia into prime position for the upcoming turn.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Looking to remove key units from the Death Guard that prove to be pivotal as the battle continues, Steven chooses the Poxwalkers as his next target. After having disengaged them in combat with the Rhino, he fires at them with an array of Battle Sister weaponry. The combined firepower of the Adepta Sororitas proves to be too much for the Poxwalkers, as the entire unit are removed from the battlefield.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Following up what is looking to be a phenomenal turn for the Battle Sisters, Steven fires his remaining Rhinos at the Plague Marine unit. The Storm Bolters being in Rapid Fire range means that they get a hefty amount of shots at their target, as they manage to remove the final 3 Plague Marines from the battle too.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

In what has now become a heavy back and forth between the two artillery pieces, the Exorcist now returns fire to the Plagueburst Crawler. Unlike the Death Guard vehicle however, the Exorcist hits its mark, dealing a massive total of 5 wounds to it in one go.

Turn 3 (Adepta Sororitas)

Looking to avenge the fallen Canoness, Saint Celestine charges headfirst into the Daemon Prince, in an attempt to cut off the Death Guard from their Warlord. Gripping The Arden Blade tightly once more, she launches herself fearlessly into the Daemon Prince. The wounded Daemon Prince struggles to keep its composure as the Living Saint begins to slice deep into the puss-filled tissue of its malformed body. A few well placed blows are more than enough to fell the Daemon Prince, with Slay the Warlord now going back over to Steven!

Turn 3 (Death Guard)

Shaggy starts his Turn 3 by moving the Blightlord Terminators forward. Knowing that he has lost a lot of his forces, he needs to maximise the output that the few units he has left can, which means that he is required to play this out in a very smart fashion if he is to steal a win from Steven.

Turn 3 (Death Guard)

The Plaguecaster once again casts Curse of the Leper on the Battle Sisters, as the weird formation of green smog travels towards the Sisters. The pungency and thickness of the gas leaves them choking for air, immediately rotting their skin as they drop to their knees. 3 more Battle Sisters are slain as a result of this.

Turn 3 (Death Guard)

The Terminators close the gap entirely, ensuring that they do not fail the charge in the oncoming assault phase. They fire their vile Blight Launchers, killing yet another 3 of them, before charging in. Fearing for their lives after seeing what became of their Battle Sisters, they await their demise, as the Blightlord Terminators trample over the remainder of the Sisters. At the same time, they grab a hold of the objective.

Turn 3 (Death Guard)

In similar fashion, the second unit of Blightlord Terminators finish off one of the units of Battle Sisters in the Shooting Phase, carving a path open to assault the second unit. Without an issue, they manage to slaughter a second unit. This is definitely not looking good for Steven now, as Shaggy has managed to make up some ground during his turn!

Turn 3 (Death Guard)

Getting carried away with the success of the turn, Shaggy charges into the unit with two Battle Sisters, hoping to wipe them out too. However, as the Plaguecaster runs towards the two Sisters, the Melta armed Sister fires in the Overwatch, claiming the life of the Death Guard Psyker.

At the end of that Turn, Steven picks up yet another Victory Point. Shaggy is going to really need to wipe out key units in order to win this.

Turn 4 (Adepta Sororitas)

Coming into Turn 4, Steven begins by moving his units. Here we see an overview of the battlefield, and how the Blightlord Terminators are clumped up, far from the main forces of the Sisters, whilst we also see the Exorcist in its original location.

Turn 4 (Adepta Sororitas)

The Exorcist now notices a new target; the Blightlord Terminators. Realising that they are a prime threat on the battlefield, Steven fires his Exorcist Missiles at them, the large explosions managing to kill off 1 of the Terminators.

Turn 4 (Adepta Sororitas)

The Geminae Superia charge into the Plagueburst Crawler first, hoping to waste the vehicle’s Overwatch. However, some great rolling from Shaggy sees both of the Geminae slain in the Overwatch. Steven then charges Saint Celestine into it, but it seems as if Shaggy’s luck has now run out, failing to hit at all. The Living Saint manages to deal a total of 3 wounds to the vehicle, leaving it on just 3 left.

Turn 4 (Death Guard)

With Shaggy wasting no time, he opts to leave out the movement phase. Some very unfortunate rolling sees Shaggy doing no damage in the shooting phase, forcing him to have to charge the Battle Sisters with his Terminators. The Blightlord Terminators kick the Battle Sisters aside, their Bubotic Axes hacking their torsos violently in half, leaving a bloodied mess scattered along the battlefield. Only 2 Sisters remain on the battlefield now.

Turn 4 (Death Guard)

Meanwhile, the Plagueburst Crawler falls back, hoping to Overwatch Saint Celestine later on.

Turn 5 (Adepta Sororitas)

The Exorcist once again fires at the Blightlord Terminators, this time focusing on the unit on the right flank. The heavy sound of the organs resonates through the battlefield, as another round of Missiles fire once more, this time, impressively, claiming the life of 2 Terminators.

Turn 5 (Adepta Sororitas)

As the battle begins to come to a close, Steven knows that he needs to remove as many units as he possibly can, in order to leave Shaggy with as few units to retaliate with as possible. Saint Celestine charges into the Plagueburst Crawler, which once again, does not manage to land a hit on Celestine in the Overwatch. Finally, the Living Saint manages to remove the vehicle, which fails to explode unlike the first Crawler earlier on!

Turn 5 (Death Guard)

Understanding that the game is coming to a close, Shaggy knows that he has to go for broke! He is under the scoreline by one, so he begins by targeting Saint Celestine as she is the closest unit to the Terminators. They remove a total of 4 wounds from the Living Saint, however, will this be enough?

Turn 5 (Death Guard)

Needing a hefty 9″ charge, Shaggy risks it and is successful! The Terminators find themselves face to face with the Living Saint herself. An exchange of blows from either side are traded for a while, until finally, the Terminators manage to outnumber the incoming blows from Celestine, as they manage to slay her. However, the Miraculous Intervention rule allows Steven to bring Saint Celestine back to life on the roll of a 2+, which he easily makes.

Turn 6 (Adepta Sororitas)

Coming into the sixth turn of the game, Steven prioritises capturing as many objectives as possible, in an attempt to pull ahead in Victory Points.

Turn 6 (Adepta Sororitas)

The Exorcist continues to hail Missiles at the weakened Terminator unit. Constant barrages of Missiles prove to be too much even for the hardy Plagued Terminators, as the final models are removed from the unit, which also happened to be capturing an objective!

With a quick glance at the table, Shaggy realises that it is impossible for him to win the game with only 1 unit left on the table, and with Steven so far ahead. Due to this, both players decide to call it, with it being a Victory for Steven and the Adepta Sororitas!

Steven: What a game both armies were so resilient in the opening turns, loved playing the new beta codex and thanks to Games Workshop for supporting us and giving us the privilege to do so. Points have gone down with the list so had much more than I usually have in my 1500 point list which I liked, Faith Points were hard to get into, don’t really know what to think of them yet, but I think it’s a case of playing multiple games with them. My game plan was good just maybe slightly a bit to aggressive and too quick to spend so many Command Points on the opening turn but was just so excited to use some of the good Stratagems. Again, excellent game with two gorgeous armies on one of my favourite battle fields. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did playing it! Will definitely be bringing back the Sisters in the near future!
Shaggy: SEIZED AGAIN! Haha, that’s life! Amazing to see all these new rules to come out with the new Chapter Approved. Regarding my own Death Guard, I was not expecting the big unit of Plague Marines to be so effective and resilient. With the lower points, I was able to include more without compromising my usual play style. The Pox Walkers are a great addition and the Plagueburst Crawlers are an amazing unit that are just so resilient and sturdy, you can expect them to either absorb a lot of fire or deal a lot of damage. Well worth the points and they look amazing! Now facing off against Adepta Sororitas is never an easy thing and with the new Beta rules, it makes them very strong! The new Acts of Faith are an interesting change (which i can see being implemented to other Armies as a way to stop abilities from being automatic) and when you now add in the new stratagems they have access to it makes them a very tough, versatile army. Now to the mission. Welcome back 7th edition deployment haha! I can see this mission being used as it saves a lot of time in deployments and this one in particular pushes you to try and go for objectives and kills. I’m loving all the new changes that have come around with this Chapter Approved and can’t wait to continue to dive into the book and read up on the missions. I hope you all enjoyed the Battle Report it was a lot of fun and a very close game! See you all again soon 🙂
