Battle Report (Thousand Sons vs Death Korps of Krieg)

The sky loomed dark and dangerous above, clouds roiling and churning as though angry. Furious lightning ripped the heavens apart, thunder roared, a sound that penetrated even the toughest of walls. This planet was passing through a warp storm, a wound in space itself. Windows trembled, metal bulkheads groaned, and all around, faint whispers could be heard. Still, the Death Korps of Krieg, loyal defenders and resolute fighters, remained at their posts looking up at a sky that could at any moment open like a gaping maw and consume them all.

The station commander looked upon his outpost through the command post’s forward windows. Amber caution lights flashed at the gates. The station’s antennae swayed, barely holding onto their supports. He pressed a button on his vox caster and broadcast a wide request to all positions asking for an update.

All was well.

And yet, as the station’s forward watchmen reported in, the station commander could not find relief. The hairs on the nape of his neck stood on end, as if he’d walked into a current. He swallowed hard to push down the pinch of fear at the back of his throat. That he would allow himself, for a little fear turned a good soldier into a great one, but no more.

He shook his head. All was not well. His gut, his most primal instincts, screamed at him. He approached the eastern window and stared out into the billowing wind and flurrying snow but saw only more of his domain; cargo containers, cranes, tanks. From the western window he saw more of the same, lights from the station’s barracks tapering off as visibility worsened. It was in the rear window that he saw his instincts vilified.

Lightning whipped through the churning clouds as if to reveal a snarling face. The commander’s throat clenched, but he did not retreat from the sight. Not even when the light of magic, dark magic, reached his eyes, did he let fear get the better of him. Calmly, without saying a word to those around him, he moved to his command station and entered the code to raise the station’s alarms.

The lights dimmed and turned red. Sirens blared. All around him, soldiers reached for their lasguns and began to mobilize; protocol followed at every step. The commander drew his own laspistol from its holster, walked to the rear window, and stared into the storm. Swirling vortices shimmered against the dark, lights flashed, and slowly, the gleam of armored men took shape.

The Thousand Sons had used the storm to cover their slow, relentless advance, and now the wolves were at his door. Tanks grumbled to life, mortar teams took their positions, and the station’s outer defences began to fire, muzzle flashes filling the air.

“How does one kill a storm?” he asked himself. “With righteous fire.”

Greetings all and welcome back to the SN Studio, where we will be showcasing a brand new army that has yet to be showcased here at the Studio; a Thousand Sons force painted by Joe from Siege Studios! They will be battling it out with the Death Korps of Krieg on a wonderfully laid out battlefield, using the exquisite JMD Scenery. The mission played today will be the No Mercy mission, so a straight Kill Point game.
Starting the deployment off, Magnus the Red arrives onto the battlefield, the large, beating wings of the giant Primarch blowing up debris from the nearby ruined buildings. What an awesome model, let’s see what he’s capable of in today’s battle.
