"The sudden order shook the entire Ultramarines command deck.

***PRIORITY ORDERS RECEIVED***
***PREPARE STRIKE FORCE GAMMA FOR IMMEDIATE DEPLOYMENT***
***NEW TARGETS IDENTIFIED FOR EXTERMINATION***
***CRIMSON FIST STRIKE FORCE THETA***

From the bridge of the Battle Barge Unifying Might, Brother Captain Orellus had been conducting a Cleanse and Capture campaign that raged across the planet Embus. Though it was little more than a blasted desert, a roasting rock of little importance to the Imperium, the Ultramarines had pledged an oath to the Emperor to hunt purge the alien, the mutant, and the heretic, wherever it breeds. To abandon even the most Emperor-forsaken place was to forfeit the right to call yourself a son of Ultramar.

On the planet below, blasphemous whispers moved swiftly across its sandy plains, spreading madness among the population. The Ultramarines surgical strikes had sealed many pockets of chaos activity, each drop helping to make the planet that little bit safer. They had not asked the Crimson Fists for assistance, but their arrival had coincided with increased Chaos activity on the surface, and so their aid was not unwelcomed… or questioned.

When the order to engage the Crimson Fists came through, questions arose, but they went unanswered. The order was unequivocal, urgent, and final. Deploy. Engage. Exterminate. The Crimson Fists position was well fortified, Orellus knew. These weren’t bloodthirsty humans armed with whatever they could find, nor were they minor Daemons fresh from the warp. On the planet below was a contingent of Primaris Space Marines. Crimson Fists. Sons of Dorn. There would be casualties, there would be bloodshed.

But the order was final.

Emperor, protect us all."

Greetings once more to the SN Community and welcome back to one of our classic battle reports! After two long months, we have come back to getting our classic reports which you all know and love done, as the SN Team have been slaving away preparing video content for the SN+ Members. We will now be returning to our usual schedule, featuring atleast one classic battle report a month. In today's return to the battlefield we have two veterans of the game squaring off against each other. Pardo will be bringing his famed Crimson Fists with him, which will be squaring off against Shaggy's Ultramarines, after having received new reinforcements straight out of Standfast Studio, as local commissioner Benji has been slaving over Shaggy's army to make it look beyond incredible. Topping it all off, they will be battling on one of SN's stunning battlefields, allowing for tactical play as both players look to take advantage of the copious amounts of terrain to protect themselves, whilst using the open spaces to engage each other.

The second instalment of our first SN Narrative Campaign is here! Featuring the epic clash between the Blood Angels and the Chaos Warband - The Children of the Neverborn! Follow Chaplain Azeos and Captain Carmillus with their Brothers as they race to conceal the chapters dark secret, but when they finally catch up with their prize, will the hunters…. become the hunted.

Find out what happens in this climatic episode of another saga in the history of the Blood Angels Chapter!

Welcome to SN Battle Reports 2nd episode of The Children of the Neverborn narrative campaign! Special thanks again to Steve Joll from New Zealand for the incredible voice over narration at the start of this bloody tale of bitter conflict and wild gambits as we enter mission two - The Hunt on this abandoned ruined city! Will the Blood Angels locate their secret before the Children of the Neverborn?

The Warp. A blasted, hellish thing if ever there was one. We rely on it in order to reach distant stars upon which we may shine the Emperor’s light. And yet, dwelling within it, the foulest of creatures writhe and breed and spread their filth. They infect all they touch, turning good souls into tattered abominations hell-bent on the annihilation of everything that doesn’t stink like they do.

I can smell their stink now. Treading as I do upon this Emperor-forsaken world, my bolt rifle gripped tightly in my hands, I anticipate my encounter with my foe. My brothers stand with me, able warriors to the last. We are warriors. We are Raptors. Like predators in a vast and starry jungle, we have hunted down our prey across entire sectors, closing in on the watering hole at which they feel most complacent.

They call themselves the Red Corsairs. They are renegades, despoilers, moving from planet to planet, raiding and pillaging as they go. They fight like the Drukhari, using speed and misdirection to their advantage. And yet, they are a legion of Adeptus Astartes, and so they think as we do. They wear their power armour as if it were a second skin. They fill their ranks with blasphemous machines and daemon engines. With their enhanced senses and transhuman physiologies, they are formidable foes.

The most challenging game… but game nonetheless.

My brothers take their positions. We are the vanguard, scouting ahead of the rest of the force, scouting the enemy position and identifying their strongest and weakest points. Above us, drop pods are ready to fall like meteors. I give the order to the battle barge in orbit. Commence drop sequence.

It is the last order I give. I feel the lightning claws rip through my armour, my skin, my bones and organs like I was naked. The pain is sudden and hot, then deathly cold. Staring down, I see the tips of the blades protruding from my chest. They’re soaked in blood and crackling with energy. Around me, the rest of my squad has fallen. We were not as well hidden as we had thought, or had been led to believe.

First blood has been spilled, and now the game can begin.

Welcome back to the SN Studio, the home of the best quality written Warhammer battle reports! Today we bring you a special treat, as we have Chris and his Red Corsairs list which he took to Heat 1 and qualified, battling it out against Pardo and his Ravenguard. This will be the first time Pardo brings these out since the release of the Raven Guard supplement, so it will be interesting to see how it fares in today's game. Pardo's Raptors list is notoriously powerful, with him fine-tuning it after many painstaking games. Today however, he decides to switch things up slightly, as he looks to try out new units that he thinks work well with the supplement. Meanwhile, Chris is running his Red Corsairs, an army that, whilst not the most powerful on paper, runs quite a few ways to disrupt enemy forces. It is shaping up to be a great game between these two tabletop veterans. Once again, the SN Team prepare the battlefield up, using the famed ruined city terrain. We will also be featuring something new at the end of the battle report; a video conclusion, where both Chris and Pardo will run us through how the game went, as well as their thoughts on what they could have done differently. With all of that out of the way, let us get right into it!

The battlefield was a forest of flames. Spires of thick, black smoke rose into the air in hellish columns from the broken hulks of destroyed tanks. Through the haze and the noxious fumes at ground level, sporadic pockets of light erupted. Bolter fire. Someone was alive in there, still fighting, still breathing—somehow.

There, deep in the heart of all that smoke, where the air was thickest and darkest, where a single breath could kill a man four times over, stood Brother Sergeant Crassos. His armour had been battered and broken. Red lights flashed all across his HUD, indicating not only that his re-breather was on the verge of imminent and catastrophic failure, but that he was dangerously low on ammunition.

His squad had perished, his battalion, too. He was all that was left of Strike Force Gamma; the last Ultramarine left, but he was not alone. There were shapes in the shadows. Twisting, writhing shapes, watching him, taunting him. Whenever one appeared, Crassos would level his bolt rifle and hesitate before firing. His bullets were precious, his armour was failing, but he had his faith in the Emperor, and faith in himself.

“As long as I draw breath,” he yelled, “You will not lay claim to this place, treacherous scum.”

“That, brother, can be arranged,” came a gurgling voice from within the smoke.

Perhaps his ocular displays had started failing, but Crassos thought the flames licking at the edges of his power armour were starting to turn a noxious, vile green. He leveled his bolt rifle, checking the readout one more time. Six bullets were all that remained. Five more than he would need to kill the speaker.

A shape emerged from the smoke. Not a shadow, this time, but a hulking figure clad in white. As the smoke rolled off this newcomer’s body, Crassos could see not only the markings on his power armour, but also the writhing tendrils and baubles bursting from it. All Chaos was abominable, but the Death Guard were the foulest of all. Though his rebreather had not failed yet, he could already smell the traitor despite the fire and the smoke.

“In the Emperor’s holy name,” Crassos roared, “Die by my hands!”

His bolt rifle roared with him, and a bullet exploded against the Death Guard’s chest, shattering the ceramite and forcing the traitor to stop his slow advance. The hit was true, the bolt had tasted flesh, but the traitor had not perished. Worse, more shapes had started to emerge from the smoke behind him—a legion of Death Guard seemingly unhurt despite the bloody conflict. One of them levelled a plasma gun, the weapon glowing ominously within the haze.

A garbled voice message suddenly touched his ears, though he could barely hear it over the sound of his own thundering heart. Perhaps this was Chaos trickery at work, perhaps he was hearing what they wanted him to hear, or perhaps the message was true.

"Strike Force Gamma, do you read? This is Battle Barge Octavius. Brothers, stand your ground and prepare to receive the Lord of Macragge. Help is on the way."

With cold stormy weather looming over the rock, the SN Team seek the refuge of the Studio, where they prepare themselves for yet another action-packed battle report. With SN member Shaggy present, he decides to test out a new army of his, a Primaris Ultramarines army! This is an ongoing project taken on by Benji of Standfast Studios, a local painter who's arrived on the rock. With Shaggy issuing the challenge, Pardo swiftly accepts it, choosing the Death Guard, as some newly painted units had arrived for them. Due to the size of Shaggy's current force, the players choose to make this a 900 point game, allowing Shaggy to get to grips with his forces. They choose the Dawn of War deployment, as well as the Narrow the Search mission, one which sees both factions fighting for a lone objective within the centre of the battlefield, with the control zone starting out at 18" from the centre of the battlefield, which shrinks by 3" each turn as the battle progresses. The army with more models within range of the objective secures a Victory Point at the end of the battle round, with the usual secondary conditions; Slay the Warlord, First Strike and Linebreaker also being in effect. Shaggy loses the first roll off of the game, with Pardo Deploying second. This in turn means that Shaggy will get go first!

It was to be the trophy of a generation. Four Imperial Knights had been detected lumbering through a ruined city, likely moving from one battle zone to another. It was in that very same ruined city that a Drukhari Archon and her raiding force had not hours before claimed slaves for the dark city, and treasures for her personal collection. Oh, how the fates had aligned this day to present her with an opportunity for incredible gains.

Quickly, she set up an ambush. The Imperial Knights were slow, and would be forced to move down a centre street lest they risk damaging their metal boxes by charging through crumbling buildings. Her scourges took to the sky, as did some of the heavier units in her force. Eager Kabalite Warriors took to their Venoms and hid amongst the ruins as the Knights approached, their engines running silently, their blasters primed.

She was gambling not only with her own life but with the lives of the pirates and miscreants under her command. Still, none objected to the plan, for they would be bathed with renown if even one of the Mon’keigh sitting inside of those metal monsters could be pulled out and brought back to the Arena alive.

Perhaps she was being greedy, perhaps she should’ve taken to the webway as soon as the Knights’ impressive shadows were spotted lurking in the distance. She knew her splinter weapons would be useless against them. Her planning would have to be precise, her strikes deathly accurate. But what was life without a little risk?

The Farseer turned her eyes up to watch drop pods burn holes in the atmosphere like falling stars. The humans had come in force, likely responding to the same threat, even if she and her forces would likely become their first target. They were fools. Fools that had doomed themselves just as much as they had the rest of this planet, but they had no way of knowing that. Their minds, though altered, were mere children’s minds in comparison to that of the Aeldari.

Engaging them on the field was a risk, but it was one they would have to take if their mission was to succeed. The planet, the sector, perhaps even their very Craftworld depended on it.

She hurried, scurrying across the barren waste as fast as she could, relaying orders to her forces and preparing them for battle. Waves of Aeldari clad in yellow and purple, Iyanden colours, rallied at her call; Rangers taking their positions, Guardians preparing their shuriken catapults, Hemlock Wraithfighters taking to the skies and maintaining a tight formation overhead.

As the Astartes drop pods and Storm Ravens began to smash and land into the earth, shaking the ground and sending cracks rippling along the surface, the Farseer reached her webway portal. She stood before it, stretching her mind through the portal itself and sending her consciousness to the other side. There, sitting dormant on the other side, waiting for her call, the great monster stirred. She hadn’t wanted to wake it, had hoped she would not need to, but the hour was growing short, and they would not be able to defeat the Astartes without help.

Slowly, guided by the Farseer’s ethereal touch, the Wraith Knight ambled through the webway, arriving with a flash of light at the mouth of the portal. The towering construct turned its head low to regard its Farseer, bowed, and then gave its attention to the advancing humans. They were moving quickly, spots of blue amidst the red, barren landscape.

They would break themselves against the Aeldari here. Otherwise many more lives would be lost.

Carac Ty-Balt stared up at the central mosaic, it depicted those of his own kind, fellow Deathwing Terminators of the Dark Angels Chapter, striking down a colossal, heretical daemon. The colours within the panes washed his bone-white armour in hues of crimson and green.

The vast chamber of cold steel was dark, save for the illumination of the mosaic, that shone into the central dias of the room. Carac watched the procession of Ecclesiarchy, their censer bearers filling the air with an aroma of warm spices, as they gave prayers to the Emperor and spoke aloud the Rites of Banishment around the gathered towering knights. The Terminators stood silently, paying heed to the importance of the moment, the rites being performed, each knew what they faced on the planet's surface below.

‘Brothers!’ Carac yelled out to his fellow elite of the Dark Angels, he pointed his power sword up at the floor-to-ceiling mosaic, highlighting his ancient brothers, imortalised in past deeds of heroism.

‘For the Emperor, for the Lion and for the Chapter, we purge the heretic in their name!’

The gathered Deathwing raised their weapons in unison, arcs of light sprang out above them, as the teleportarium from below came to life. Carac’s thoughts stayed with the mosaic, hoping to replicate it’s honour.

They were coming for the heretics, to deliver the Emperor’s justice.

A haphazard industrial sprawl towered over the bleak landscape spewing copious amounts of thick, oily smoke into the sky where it blotted out the sun in an ever-present polluted gloaming. The ramshackle nature of the complex gave the impression that a cyclopean fist had scooped up several mighty Adeptus Mechanicus manufactora only to hurl them with great force into the ground leaving a twisted mass of metal beyond all practical use. Yet the smoke and clamurous sound of industry betrayed the facilities operational status. The brave men of the Cadian 421st Shock Regiment advanced in open order towards their objective, heavy armour rumbling amidst their ranks, bayonets fixed and fingers tapping on trigger guards. It was the 38th day of the grand offensive that command had launched to drive the Orks into the acid sea and all signs pointed towards an Imperial victory. Casualties amongst the Astra Militarum were a mere 600,000 men lost, well within the Adeptus Munitorums projections and the 421st was advancing an incredible 12 miles a day, the mood amongst the Guardsmen was almost jovial, many joked they would be embarking on the next crusade within weeks though faced with the mountain of scrap that stood in their way many fell into grim silence. Despite the gains the Orks challenged the Imperium’s dominance of the sky, hundreds of fighta bombaz strafed and bombed the advancing regiments whilst dakka jets fought huge dog fights with Imperial thunderbolts and lightning interceptors. Such was the scale of the threat posed by the xenos airforces that the whole 421st had been retasked to capture or neutralise the main Ork airbase though in reality it had more in common with a forge fane of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Within the metal mountains twisted bowels hundreds of Meks fashioned warmachines of every conceivable type from the aforementioned aircraft to walkers, tanks, buggies and, most alarming of all, the initial assembly stages of several stompas. A sudden peal of thunder heralded the commencement of the Cadian preparatory bombardment. 200 earthshakers and medusas roared as one sending tons of ordnance arcing overhead to crash into the Mek fortress' flanks which was soon covered with dozens of fiery explosions. Huge sections of the complexes exterior began to collapse under the furious onslaught of the Astra Militarum’s artillery leaving gaping rents in its structure that spewed flames and smoke. The steady advance continued even as the Cadian armour lent its weight to the firestorm. The whine of overtaxed jet engines could be discerned as the Orks took to the skies to defend their base, dozens of crude yet effective flying machines rising quickly from the flames and making straight for the Cadian ranks. From the bowels of the factory sprawl came a wave of brutish walkers that clanked along almost comically on short pistoned legs and above it all a sound that drowned out even the volume of war, a cry given voice by thousands of alien throats;

"WAAAAGH!!"

The Watchmaster stamped his feet on the wooden slats across the trench floor, as he walked the line. It kept his blood moving, halting the cold bite of winter from sinking into his bones.

He silently observed his squad, as they prepared themselves for battle.  Soldiers of the Death Korps of Krieg didn’t need encouragement, or last minute reassurances. To die for the God-Emperor was a solemn duty, to atone for transgressions of the past.

The Watchmaster gazed skyward, gentle snowfall resting on the lenses of his rebreather-mask. The grey cloud covered sky began to mix with hues of dark green and black, as erratic arcs of green lightning traced across the sky. The enemy was here.

Peering over the trench, he could see the relentless march of the Necrons, they moved across the snow laden ground in unison. He could hear no battlecries, no chants of war, the Watchmaster observed his foe with the same readiness as the cold machines that he now faced. It mattered not who he fought.

War was death.

Death was atonement

With another busy day marked in the Studio's calendar, the SN Team set up a brand new snow-covered battlefield, a stark contrast to the current weather in Gibraltar. This new battle mat comes from StudioLevel, a wonderful company that specialise in creating scenic terrain and battlemats, made of the utmost best quality available to wargamers. If you feel like taking your battlefield decor to the next level, check out StudioLevel! Today's battle pits Pardo with the Studio Necrons, an army that he has had some success with in the past, against SN's Shaggy and the Death Korps of Krieg. Being an experienced Guard player, Shaggy looks to take the Death Korps to a solid victory in today's battle, whereas Pardo looks to honour the Sautekh Dynasty. Who will come out on top?
