Ravenguard vs Red Corsairs

The Warp. A blasted, hellish thing if ever there was one. We rely on it in order to reach distant stars upon which we may shine the Emperor’s light. And yet, dwelling within it, the foulest of creatures writhe and breed and spread their filth. They infect all they touch, turning good souls into tattered abominations hell-bent on the annihilation of everything that doesn’t stink like they do.

I can smell their stink now. Treading as I do upon this Emperor-forsaken world, my bolt rifle gripped tightly in my hands, I anticipate my encounter with my foe. My brothers stand with me, able warriors to the last. We are warriors. We are Raptors. Like predators in a vast and starry jungle, we have hunted down our prey across entire sectors, closing in on the watering hole at which they feel most complacent.

They call themselves the Red Corsairs. They are renegades, despoilers, moving from planet to planet, raiding and pillaging as they go. They fight like the Drukhari, using speed and misdirection to their advantage. And yet, they are a legion of Adeptus Astartes, and so they think as we do. They wear their power armour as if it were a second skin. They fill their ranks with blasphemous machines and daemon engines. With their enhanced senses and transhuman physiologies, they are formidable foes.

The most challenging game… but game nonetheless.

My brothers take their positions. We are the vanguard, scouting ahead of the rest of the force, scouting the enemy position and identifying their strongest and weakest points. Above us, drop pods are ready to fall like meteors. I give the order to the battle barge in orbit. Commence drop sequence.

It is the last order I give. I feel the lightning claws rip through my armour, my skin, my bones and organs like I was naked. The pain is sudden and hot, then deathly cold. Staring down, I see the tips of the blades protruding from my chest. They’re soaked in blood and crackling with energy. Around me, the rest of my squad has fallen. We were not as well hidden as we had thought, or had been led to believe.

First blood has been spilled, and now the game can begin.

Welcome back to the SN Studio, the home of the best quality written Warhammer battle reports! Today we bring you a special treat, as we have Chris and his Red Corsairs list which he took to Heat 1 and qualified, battling it out against Pardo and his Ravenguard. This will be the first time Pardo brings these out since the release of the Raven Guard supplement, so it will be interesting to see how it fares in today’s game. Pardo’s Raptors list is notoriously powerful, with him fine-tuning it after many painstaking games. Today however, he decides to switch things up slightly, as he looks to try out new units that he thinks work well with the supplement. Meanwhile, Chris is running his Red Corsairs, an army that, whilst not the most powerful on paper, runs quite a few ways to disrupt enemy forces. It is shaping up to be a great game between these two tabletop veterans. Once again, the SN Team prepare the battlefield up, using the famed ruined city terrain. We will also be featuring something new at the end of the battle report; a video conclusion, where both Chris and Pardo will run us through how the game went, as well as their thoughts on what they could have done differently. With all of that out of the way, let us get right into it!
