Orks vs Astra Militarum
A haphazard industrial sprawl towered over the bleak landscape spewing copious amounts of thick, oily smoke into the sky where it blotted out the sun in an ever-present polluted gloaming. The ramshackle nature of the complex gave the impression that a cyclopean fist had scooped up several mighty Adeptus Mechanicus manufactora only to hurl them with great force into the ground leaving a twisted mass of metal beyond all practical use. Yet the smoke and clamurous sound of industry betrayed the facilities operational status. The brave men of the Cadian 421st Shock Regiment advanced in open order towards their objective, heavy armour rumbling amidst their ranks, bayonets fixed and fingers tapping on trigger guards. It was the 38th day of the grand offensive that command had launched to drive the Orks into the acid sea and all signs pointed towards an Imperial victory. Casualties amongst the Astra Militarum were a mere 600,000 men lost, well within the Adeptus Munitorums projections and the 421st was advancing an incredible 12 miles a day, the mood amongst the Guardsmen was almost jovial, many joked they would be embarking on the next crusade within weeks though faced with the mountain of scrap that stood in their way many fell into grim silence. Despite the gains the Orks challenged the Imperium’s dominance of the sky, hundreds of fighta bombaz strafed and bombed the advancing regiments whilst dakka jets fought huge dog fights with Imperial thunderbolts and lightning interceptors. Such was the scale of the threat posed by the xenos airforces that the whole 421st had been retasked to capture or neutralise the main Ork airbase though in reality it had more in common with a forge fane of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Within the metal mountains twisted bowels hundreds of Meks fashioned warmachines of every conceivable type from the aforementioned aircraft to walkers, tanks, buggies and, most alarming of all, the initial assembly stages of several stompas. A sudden peal of thunder heralded the commencement of the Cadian preparatory bombardment. 200 earthshakers and medusas roared as one sending tons of ordnance arcing overhead to crash into the Mek fortress' flanks which was soon covered with dozens of fiery explosions. Huge sections of the complexes exterior began to collapse under the furious onslaught of the Astra Militarum’s artillery leaving gaping rents in its structure that spewed flames and smoke. The steady advance continued even as the Cadian armour lent its weight to the firestorm. The whine of overtaxed jet engines could be discerned as the Orks took to the skies to defend their base, dozens of crude yet effective flying machines rising quickly from the flames and making straight for the Cadian ranks. From the bowels of the factory sprawl came a wave of brutish walkers that clanked along almost comically on short pistoned legs and above it all a sound that drowned out even the volume of war, a cry given voice by thousands of alien throats;
"WAAAAGH!!"

Death Korps of Krieg vs Necrons
The Watchmaster stamped his feet on the wooden slats across the trench floor, as he walked the line. It kept his blood moving, halting the cold bite of winter from sinking into his bones.
He silently observed his squad, as they prepared themselves for battle. Soldiers of the Death Korps of Krieg didn’t need encouragement, or last minute reassurances. To die for the God-Emperor was a solemn duty, to atone for transgressions of the past.
The Watchmaster gazed skyward, gentle snowfall resting on the lenses of his rebreather-mask. The grey cloud covered sky began to mix with hues of dark green and black, as erratic arcs of green lightning traced across the sky. The enemy was here.
Peering over the trench, he could see the relentless march of the Necrons, they moved across the snow laden ground in unison. He could hear no battlecries, no chants of war, the Watchmaster observed his foe with the same readiness as the cold machines that he now faced. It mattered not who he fought.
War was death.
Death was atonement

Astra Militarum vs Tyranids
Warning claxons ripped through the base accompanied by the crazed shuffling of boots. At the end of a corridor, a company commander bellowed orders at his men, most of whom were too terrified to listen. The enemy was at the gates. They had breached the perimeter defenses, and now they were here, upon them. It was up to every single man and woman able to hold a rifle to take up arms and repel borders, or there would be no more sunrises for them.
The ceiling rumbled. Light fixtures flickered, some fell off entirely, smashing to the ground. The Leman Russes had begun their grinding advance, and their turrets were roaring in defiance of the enemy’s numbers. The guardsmen scrambling for their weapons stilled to listen to the pounding of heavy artillery, the ¬thud-thud-thud of heavy bolters. A trickle of hope filled them, hope that they could win; hope that against the odds, they would survive.
Then a scream pierced the corridor, a shriek to chill the blood of anyone listening. The soldiers cleared a path for their company commander, who came striding through the corridor to investigate the source of the sound. There, crumpled and broken, was one of his men. He clutched his ears as if he were hearing an ear-splitting sound no one else could. The commander tried to reach for his man, but the guardsman quickly turned his rifle on himself, and without hesitation, pulled the trigger. The energy pulse went clean through his skull, his brain coated the walls.
The company commander drew himself up after a moment of short breaths. Then he heard it too, a slowly rising scream not registering against his ears but in his own brain. The hope around him was faltering, the Emperor’s light fading. Worse, the tanks had fallen silent. Clenching his jaw, he drew his pistol and sword and marched toward the bulkhead at the end of the corridor. Once he glanced at his men, and only once. Some were scared, others were angry. As he pushed the button to open the door and let the light from outside spill inwards, he could only hope that fear and anger would see them through.

The cracked earth of this once bustling Imperial city, ruined by the rampage of relentless war, will today play host to another battle, one which promises to leave its mark on the lonely war-beaten buildings which cast their shadow over quiet icy streets. Returning from Heat 4 with his beloved Cadians, painted to an incredible standard by the fantastic team at Siege Studios, Shaggy will take on Julian, wielding another of our Siege Studios forces, in what we expect to be a classic match up between two old enemies. It will also be interesting to see how Shaggy, controlling a relatively stationary army when compared with the Tyranids, copes with the victory conditions of Vital Intelligence. He will have to ensure he keeps Julian off the active objectives to avoid him securing too much of a lead on victory points. So sit back, put your feet up and lets see how this game unfolds...

The sprawling fleshy mass of gnarling and biting monstrosities dominate almost the entirety of their deployment zone. Their instinctive impulses to charge across the open field towards the scent of the encroaching humans are tempered only by the influence of the hovering Malenthrope which rises towards the centre of the mass and satisfies their drives through Synapse.
