SN Battle Reports proudly presents World Eaters vs Necrons!

Back and ready for 9th edition! SN founder Pardo takes on DC as they both test out new 1500pt lists for their first 9th edition SN+ battle report. With Pardo commanding the studio Necrons as the Nihilakh dynasty & DC leading the World Eaters for the first time, this is bound to be an awesome game.

Who will stand victorious in this showdown?

The Watchmaster stamped his feet on the wooden slats across the trench floor, as he walked the line. It kept his blood moving, halting the cold bite of winter from sinking into his bones.

He silently observed his squad, as they prepared themselves for battle.  Soldiers of the Death Korps of Krieg didn’t need encouragement, or last minute reassurances. To die for the God-Emperor was a solemn duty, to atone for transgressions of the past.

The Watchmaster gazed skyward, gentle snowfall resting on the lenses of his rebreather-mask. The grey cloud covered sky began to mix with hues of dark green and black, as erratic arcs of green lightning traced across the sky. The enemy was here.

Peering over the trench, he could see the relentless march of the Necrons, they moved across the snow laden ground in unison. He could hear no battlecries, no chants of war, the Watchmaster observed his foe with the same readiness as the cold machines that he now faced. It mattered not who he fought.

War was death.

Death was atonement

With another busy day marked in the Studio's calendar, the SN Team set up a brand new snow-covered battlefield, a stark contrast to the current weather in Gibraltar. This new battle mat comes from StudioLevel, a wonderful company that specialise in creating scenic terrain and battlemats, made of the utmost best quality available to wargamers. If you feel like taking your battlefield decor to the next level, check out StudioLevel! Today's battle pits Pardo with the Studio Necrons, an army that he has had some success with in the past, against SN's Shaggy and the Death Korps of Krieg. Being an experienced Guard player, Shaggy looks to take the Death Korps to a solid victory in today's battle, whereas Pardo looks to honour the Sautekh Dynasty. Who will come out on top?

Warhorns blared across the blasted land, shaking the very earth loose. Titanic feet thundered, cracking the ground beneath them. There was no need for subtlety here, for the enemy knew of their approach. No. The Castellan in command of the Knights force wanted instead to intimidate, to strike fear into the hearts of his foe.

It did not matter to him that his foe had no heart. That his foe had only metal where there should have been flesh. That his foe could not be shaken in this way. This was how battles had been fought for millennia. First you sound the drums of war, then you dance to the beat with Stubbers and Battle Cannons.

Across from the monstrous, lumbering line of Imperial Knights—their target—stood a dark monument crackling with green energy. A Monolith to the ancient enemy, the Necrons. The sky above the edifice was dark and sinister, black clouds swirling around a beam of light shooting into the heavens.

Beneath the Monolith, a legion of undead, mechanical warriors stood stoically against the march of the Imperial Knights. Thunder grumbled overhead. Arcs of lightning flashed, illuminating their metallic armour in ethereal shades of green. These warriors did not move. They did not flinch. They did not balk at the advancing Imperial forces. Instead they waited, standing as still as statues, their eyes hollow and dead.

Until the Overlord began to move.

His steps were slow, deliberate. He moved to the frontlines, a tattered cloak billowing behind him. His eyes burned with fiery, green light; defiant against the war machines encroaching on his domain. Slowly he raised the orb held in his hand, and he stared into its dark surface. By his will, the orb sparked to life, green whips of energy rippling out from inside.

Once again, he looked to the Knights, all the while slowly raising the orb in his hand. Behind him, a sea of dark eyes suddenly shone bright green, and the warriors in perfect synchronicity leveled their weapons as, around them, from underground, more mechanical constructs begun to rise.

SN Battle Reports would like to welcome you, the reader, to another battle, which is shaping up to be an incredible read. Duking it out on the battlefield today are two SN generals; Julian, who will be using the Imperial Knights, and Chris with a very strong Necron force. As always, it is exciting to see the Imperial Knights in action at the Studio, as well as the Necrons. To top it all off, the battle will take place in an ancient Necron city, the primeval setting riddled with monolithic structures and tombs, reserved for their mightiest heroes and warriors. This has now become my personal favourite battlemat and terrain setup, as it all ties in perfectly with both the army, and the narrative!
Invading the ancient city, a warband of Imperial Knights lead by a Knight Valiant begin their first steps onto unknown territory. A Knight Errant deploys centrally, flanked by two Armiger Warglaives, the smaller and nimbler of the Knights looking to establish a forward perimeter early on in the battle, giving the larger and bulkier Knights the time necessary to move closer to their targets.
