The Hammers of Titan descended swiftly and in force. Teleportariums blazed to life, sending silver-armoured Terminators to the planet surface from their Battle Barge hovering in high orbit above the battlezone. Already the Grey Knights were in the depths of the battle, Storm Bolters ripping through the jungle, taking bites out of the wildlife.

But it was not the forces of Chaos they were fighting today.

They had been dispatched following distress hymnals sent out by an Imperial ship travelling through the sector. They had been plagued with malfunctions for weeks, ever since they entered its extremities. The Tech-Priests had done their best to keep the ship from flying itself apart, but every time they found one problem and dealt with it, a new one would spring to life to replace it.

Finally, following an almost complete shut down of the drive system, the commanding officer gave the order that the ship was to make orbit of the nearest planet available to them. There, he hoped, they would be able to mine the materials necessary to make repairs before moving on. Fearing Daemonic forces had fallen upon his ship, he sent for aid, and the Adeptus Astartes responded like lightning.

Only when they arrived, the ship was dead. Its crew was gone. Its engines had fallen silent, this time forever. The ship would remain in orbit for a thousand years, and then fall to its final death.

The Grand Master gave the order for the ship to be retrieved, that was when the scanners detected Xenos activity on the planet surface. There were Harlequins present, and they had stolen the ship’s AI core. The force was small, but they had made quick work of the unarmed Imperial ship and its crew. The Hammers of Titan, however, would not be so easily dispatched.

They fell from the sky like iron, striking hard and fast at the Harlequin raiding party. With Bolters and Flamers they pushed deeper into the heart of the jungle to deliver the Emperor’s Justice upon those who would despoil His property and His people.

They did not know they were merely fighting shadows, and that the true Harlequins were lying in wait, setting the perfect trap. It wasn’t the Imperial ship they were after; their prize was going to be much, much bigger. Perhaps they would have the last laugh, or perhaps they had underestimated their enemy this day.

Fellow wargamers and battle report enthusiasts, welcome back to the SN Studio! Give yourself that much needed hobby break as we here at SN Battle Reports deliver to you through the power of the internet yet another great game between Pardo, who will be piloting the Grey Knights and Julian, who will be using the studio Harlequins, with a slight twist; he will be fielding the Yvraine! This game is heavily favoured for the Ynnari due to the sheer potency of their rules, with the Grey Knights leaving a lot to be desired. Regardless, the players will be battling on this amazing jungle battlemat, set up with ancient Aeldari ruins, sporting the statue of a Farseer lost to time.
Forming the armoured corps of the Grey Knights are the Razorbacks, sturdy transports that ensure the delivery of the Grey Knight Strike Squads into the heart of their enemies, whilst simultaneously being able to lay down supporting fire to aid their Battle Brothers. Pardo places three of them in a line, looking to move directly into the Harlequins forces and begin tearing through them in the coming turns. In reserve, Pardo opts to keep the Dreadknights and the Terminators, limiting the amount of key pieces on the board that Julian can target, allowing him to bring them in at a pivotal stage of the battle having sustained no damage and at full capability.
And leading the entire force is none other than Lord Kaldor Draigo, Chapter Master of the Grey Knights. Clad in Terminator Armour and wielding a Storm Shield and the Titansword, one of the famed weapons known throughout the universe. Kaldor Draigo's reputation precedes him, the awe-inspiring Leader allowing all nearby Grey Knights units re-roll all failed to hit rolls, something which can make a monstrous difference during the battle.
Over on the other side of the battlefield, the elusive Harlequins begins to set themselves up. They shimmer in and out of vision, obscuring themselves with their alien technology, waiting for the opportune moment to emerge and strike the Grey Knights at a vital time.
In complete contrast to the bulk of the Grey Knights, the Harlequins continue to deploy their forces, their nimble and deft vehicles zooming in and out of the jungle terrain with ease, before coming to a halt, the jet engines quietening as to not give away their position. A unit of Skyweavers emerge, with both pilot and pillion ready to shoot off into the enemies and hack through Power Armour with their Zephyrglaives. The Skyweavers are an incredibly interesting unit, as they have the potential to deal damage from afar, especially against vehicles, dealing one straight Mortal Wound on the roll of a 4+, or D3 Mortal Wounds if they roll a 6+ with their Haywire Cannons. Once they manage to tear through the vehicle, they engage whatever infantry they can, as their close combat capabilities are just as deadly.
And with both sides deployed, we get a quick overview of the battlefield setup before the start of the first turn. I cannot stress how much I love this terrain set and how it goes with the battle mat. You can almost feel the narrative come to life as the Grey Knights prepare to traverse the heavily forested grounds of this planet, encountering the remnants of an ancient civilisation, most likely lead by the Psyker whose statue decorates the middle of the battlefield. What an epic setup! On we go to Harlequins Turn 1.
"Where's Waaaghly" Our little feature in our Battle Reports where we cleverly hide our Ork mascot Waaaghly, in one of the photos in every report! Will you be able to find him?

The blind man does not know he is in the eye of a storm, for the air around him is calm and still. Safe. Comfortable. So too does a lesser mind not know they are surrounded by the daemonic, for they cannot see it for what it truly is. A liar. A manipulator. A devourer of souls.

The operation to restore the Webway portal had been plagued with delays and ill omens from the beginning, but the warlock had been tasked to ensure it would open when needed at all costs. Night and day his people had worked; first to locate the buried gate, then to pull it out of the dirt and the snow, as only then could repairs on its Wraithbone structure could truly begin.

Though the problems had begun shortly after his ship made planetfall, the Warlock had ignored every event that had taken place, every malfunction, every death… and treated them each as a matter of course. Time was not on their side, and this planet was not a hospitable place. Problems had been foreseen.

On the third day of their work, the sky had erupted into a beautiful aurora. A dazzling mantle of greens, and purples, and golds filled the heavens. Finally, the Warlock thought, we are blessed with good fortunes. That very night, the Webway portal sang to life for the first time in millennia. The work was complete; soon they would all be able to go home.

No one had foreseen how wrong they were.

When the Daemons erupted from within the shimmering heart of the portal, they struck hard and fast. Hundreds of them, maybe thousands of tiny creatures flooded the snow and attacked with gnashing teeth and claws. Behind them, flying monsters dressed up in an array of colors scorched the snow with daemonic fire, incinerating those nearest to the Webway Gate.

This Warlock was blind once, but now he has opened his eyes, and he has seen the truth.

The Daemons were always here. He had not been doing his Farseer’s work; he had been doing theirs.

He could only hope his distress call would reach his brother before he and his people were all butchered.

440pts Reserved for summoning

Put down your plastic glue, sheath your brushes and join us at the SN Studio for another gripping battle report! With the atmosphere on the Rock still buzzing in aftermath of the Gibraltar GT, Pardo is keen to get a game in and Chema, who reached fourth place at the tournament, eagerly steps up. His Chaos Daemons list is a little different to what what we are used to and, with a spare 440 points set aside for summoning, certainly stood out at the GT. Pardo will be fielding a similar Alaitoc list to the one he took to the Malmo Wargaming Weekend, a very powerful challenge for Chema. The report will unfold over an amazing battle mat from TableTop Tactics which we feel works incredibly well with the fantastic ruined city terrain by JMD Scenery. Raring to begin, Chema and Pardo warm up their dice, open their tape measures and begin deployment.

Lightning ripped through a sky the color of old bruises. The scout marine’s camo cloak billowed in the wind, acidic rainwater making tiny holes in the fabric where it fell. His auspex array started to bleep, and he stuck his hand up, signalling for his squad to hold position. Carefully, he picked his way across black rocks to find a better position, then he readied his sniper rifle and pressed his eye against the scope.

Under normal conditions, the tactical display measured range, elevation. It even calculated precisely where the barrel should be aimed depending on what the soldier wanted to kill. But these weren’t normal conditions. The targeting display buzzed and flickered, and the numbers stopped making sense. As the space marine attempted to concentrate, he noticed words appearing on the display that shouldn’t have been there.

Blasphemous words he did not want to read.

He flicked a switch on the side of the scope and shut the display off, choosing instead to trust his own enhanced eyes. Ahead was the carcass of the small supply outpost the Adeptus Astartes had been sent to investigate. Already the situation looked grim. Its walls had been breached—not just breached, but torn down as if by some mighty beast. Its running lights were down, the power had gone out, but eerie lights flickered within the structure regardless causing sinister shadows to dance around inside its broken walls.

“Movement,” he said, his voice relaying into the earpieces of his squad and his direct commanders. “Take your positions, brothers.”

Like a well-oiled machine, the scouts moved into position, each finding a spot on which to rest their long-barrelled sniper rifles. Patiently the brother sergeant watched the compound, trying to analyse the shapes being cast in the dark. Tendrils. Fire. Great, hulking shapes. What in the Emperor’s name had befallen this wretched place?

Then it happened. Someone had exited the structure and had started running away from it. Human, panicked, fleeing. The space marine angled his rifle just so, trailing the human so his bullet would strike true should he need to squeeze the trigger. But the human wasn’t running toward the marines; he was running aimlessly, without direction, and into weather he would surely not survive inside.

Muzzle flashes caught his eye. Bullets followed the panicked human; not bullets, but bolter rounds. And the sergeant brought his sniper rifle to bear on the source of the shooting, he saw them. Their armor was thick, and ancient, and adorned with spikes. Their shadows loomed impossibly large, like monsters in themselves. Through a gap in the wall, the Iron Warriors spilled out. Having taken what they needed, they were ready to move on and taking a path that would see them move through the scout’s position.

Without fear, the sergeant trailed his weapon on one of the iron warriors, aimed, and gently squeezed the trigger. And seconds before his rifle spoke, he called in reinforcements.

“Brother captain,” he said, “Chaos sighted at these coordinates. Strike from the sky.”

Greetings all and welcome back to another battle report, held in none other than the famed SN Studio! In today's battle, we will be showcasing two returning studio forces, those being the Iron Warriors and the Crimson Fists. Being played on one of our classic boards which has been prepared by the team themselves, both players prepare themselves for deployment. Hold on to your seats boys and girls this is going to be a good one!

Warning claxons ripped through the base accompanied by the crazed shuffling of boots. At the end of a corridor, a company commander bellowed orders at his men, most of whom were too terrified to listen. The enemy was at the gates. They had breached the perimeter defenses, and now they were here, upon them. It was up to every single man and woman able to hold a rifle to take up arms and repel borders, or there would be no more sunrises for them.

The ceiling rumbled. Light fixtures flickered, some fell off entirely, smashing to the ground. The Leman Russes had begun their grinding advance, and their turrets were roaring in defiance of the enemy’s numbers. The guardsmen scrambling for their weapons stilled to listen to the pounding of heavy artillery, the ¬thud-thud-thud of heavy bolters. A trickle of hope filled them, hope that they could win; hope that against the odds, they would survive.

Then a scream pierced the corridor, a shriek to chill the blood of anyone listening. The soldiers cleared a path for their company commander, who came striding through the corridor to investigate the source of the sound. There, crumpled and broken, was one of his men. He clutched his ears as if he were hearing an ear-splitting sound no one else could. The commander tried to reach for his man, but the guardsman quickly turned his rifle on himself, and without hesitation, pulled the trigger. The energy pulse went clean through his skull, his brain coated the walls.

The company commander drew himself up after a moment of short breaths. Then he heard it too, a slowly rising scream not registering against his ears but in his own brain. The hope around him was faltering, the Emperor’s light fading. Worse, the tanks had fallen silent. Clenching his jaw, he drew his pistol and sword and marched toward the bulkhead at the end of the corridor. Once he glanced at his men, and only once. Some were scared, others were angry. As he pushed the button to open the door and let the light from outside spill inwards, he could only hope that fear and anger would see them through.

Introduction

The cracked earth of this once bustling Imperial city, ruined by the rampage of relentless war, will today play host to another battle, one which promises to leave its mark on the lonely war-beaten buildings which cast their shadow over quiet icy streets. Returning from Heat 4 with his beloved Cadians, painted to an incredible standard by the fantastic team at Siege Studios, Shaggy will take on Julian, wielding another of our Siege Studios forces, in what we expect to be a classic match up between two old enemies. It will also be interesting to see how Shaggy, controlling a relatively stationary army when compared with the Tyranids, copes with the victory conditions of Vital Intelligence. He will have to ensure he keeps Julian off the active objectives to avoid him securing too much of a lead on victory points. So sit back, put your feet up and lets see how this game unfolds...
Deployment (Tyranids)

The sprawling fleshy mass of gnarling and biting monstrosities dominate almost the entirety of their deployment zone. Their instinctive impulses to charge across the open field towards the scent of the encroaching humans are tempered only by the influence of the hovering Malenthrope which rises towards the centre of the mass and satisfies their drives through Synapse.
